Should be a great game, Padua is loaded with talent. They have lost to Brunswick 21-20 and Toledo St. Francis DeSales 30-24. Friday the Bruins took down Strongsville 21-7.

Northwest is coming off two blowout wins over Cleveland John Hay 45-7 and Canton South 49-21 after falling to Orrville 41-27 in week one.

I think this is a playoff caliber game. Northwest will find out what kind of team they have after Friday Night.

Yes we have played weak teams, but on any given Friday anything defe happen.
The 1st team D has only given up 7 points the last two weeks. Yes Parma plays an above average schedule, but I like the Tribe winning by 6 pt.

Much like John Hay, I am excited to welcome some new blood to our friendly confines. I just hope more fans show up than what John hay brought. I think they were under 20, no band, no cheerleaders. I felt bad for the kids not having anyone there to support them.

That's the support you get from the big city schools: None.
Our regional semifinal Basketball game in Canton had similar numbers from John Hay. They simply don't support their schools. You would think parents would at least show up.
I'm pretty sure Padua will bring a few fans down to your place.

I agree 100%. Everyone at the hospital kept saying she looks like her mom. I was like "what a relief!"

there big across the front 6 ft 2 to 6ft 5 230 to 270 backs are 6ft 190 qb is like 6ft3. we have to play mistake free football. if we play our game it will come down to the wire. if we play like we did against whoreville were doomed. lol. orrville was good but we gave that one away.

Are they a running team, passing team or balanced? Any studs?

I would consider them to be more of a running team. Their QB and RB are the best players. They like many formations, can do anything out of an I formation to a 4 WR set. Defensively they run a 3-3 Stack. (This is what I recall from last year when they played buchtel in the playoffs.)

BALANCED OFFENSE.....Wow what a concept.....but it looks like last week they kept it on the ground most of the night with RB Will Hughesand and QB Jim Solano with 19 and 18 carries respectively. They threw the ball more in their other games. They lost to D1 Brunswick by a point and by 6 to D2 Toledo St. Francis deSales. They beat D1 Strongsville which seems to be having a down year, but they are no cupcake either. With the schedule they play, you could call them Benedictine's little brother.

Scouting Report: Padua at NorthwestThe teams The Northwest Indians have put an opening week loss to Orrville behind them by rolling off two blowout wins over John Hay and Canton South to move to 2-1. In past years, that would send the Indians into Northeastern Buckeye Conference play on an up note, but being an independent this season means, in veteran coach Vic Whiting’s eyes, “the next five weeks are playoff games.” Northwest continued to improve in all aspects last week, as QB Nick Riley had another strong game throwing the ball and RB Ronnie Beers contributed both running and receiving. The offensive line, led by tackle Jordan West, guard Matthew McDonnell and center Jerrad Cox, had its best night run blocking. Riley distributes the ball to various receivers, with J.C.Pawlyk, Kyle Harris, Andrew Colon, Dan May and Beers all being viable targets. Defensively, Northwest had one of its best nights of the season in last week’s win. Linebackers Bryan Pawlyk, Nate Reed and Jay Strelecki were among the players who stood out against South.

Padua’s tough early season schedule included losses to Brunswick and Toledo St. Francis. The Bruins got in the win column by defeating Strongsville 21-7 last week. Coach Tony Shuman has the Bruins operating out of a multiple-formation offense that Whiting described as being very similar to Northwest’s. Jim Solano, who is effective both passing and running, calls the shots atQB. Junior Will Hughes leads the ground game, while Dominic Acciarri is one of Solano’s favorite passing targets. Padua’s active defense came up with three interception in last week’s win, two by Zak Baumer. Linebackers Mike Roder and AnthonyMartella also lead the Padua defense.

The key matchup While Northwest has struggled at times to run the ball, its passing game has been productive nearly every week. Whiting expects the team to continue passing even more, which will put the pressure on the line to continue giving Riley time to find his targets.

Streaks, stats and facts Riley was 16-of-18 for 208 yards and two TDs in just over a half of action last week. He’s 47-of-76 for 652 yards and six TDs this season. ... Beers rushed for 99 yards and two scores on 15 carries last week. That raised his season total to 37-217-8. ... Harris leads Northwest with 12 catches, while Beers has 10 for a team-high 177 yards. ... Hughes had 20 rushes for 101 yards last week, while Solano added 61 yards on 21 carries. ... Solano was 8-of-15 passing for 100 yards vs. Strongsville.

Passing the ball more?.....really its about all they do and it is a formula for getting crushed.......I'm taking Padua 28-13

I would at least like to see a RB in the backfield. There is no running threat from Riley.....he's a pocket passer and you need a mobile QB for a 5 wide offense to work because there is no running threat that the defense has to account for. Sure he might get a few yards here and there, but he's not taking one to the house. The problem with a RB in the backfield is that Beers is also hands down the best receiver (and athlete) on the team as well so you can't afford to loose him as a target.

Good luck to the players...play hard and smart and prove me wrong by taking it to the Bruins!
