Pretty sure the best fastball I ever threw got jimmy jacked off the silo at Jackson High School's old field. Some kid in our district all-star game hit it a ton, he deserved to pimp it out because he hammered it.
If I had to guess, it was probably 87-89 mph.

I second that. I was going to call 'bullshit' on most of this, but you beat me to it. I considered myself to have an average HS fast ball and topped out at 72.. If you threw 80-82, you were probably the staff Ace and an all -league player.
30 years later... the fastest kid that I saw pitch at the high school level threw 87 and he was a 6th round pick by the Yankees (Jason Stephens, Tallmadge). SonHits HS team went to the regionals 2 years in a row and the fastest guy they had, could, on occasion, hit 85. Three other pitchers over those two years bounced around 80. That was one hell of a staff.
sonHits played against Andy Sonnastine several times...the kid was pretty fast...threw 80 maybe 82 in High School.

Yeah....during high school the fastest I saw/faced was 85....and before my sr year I attended a 9 star baseball camp/showcase in Dublin and there were 100's of college hopefuls and 2 guys cracked 87....one threw 89 and one threw 91 (he was pulled aside by several people after his turn).....the rest of us were 75-83.
Funny story on this camp/showcase...on day 2 we played 4 inning games all day and I three a perfect freaking game buy my defense was amazing behind me and my 2nd baseman was Chad Myers (played off and on for the Cubs for about 3 years)....he robbed 3 should be hits.....he was easily the best player there.

Zach Farmer.....jr at little ol Piketon is an all-american on 3 different lists....but he throws 93-94 at age 16....so he's an extreme exception.

There was a kid in our Hot Stove league WAY back who hit 95 on the gun at age 15. He was from Grafton (Midview). Think his name was Villevac or Vivilac or something like that. This was back in the early 80's. That shit was scary because he hit one of my teammates who squared to bunt right in the nuts with a fastball. You mean congrats on having an average fast ball. My curve was much better than average...and I spotted my pitches pretty well too.Congrats on being average.

When I played I did see a lefty who threw low 90s, he was drafted but chose to go to Georgia Tech instead. Name was Chuck Crowder. We did have one other person on our team that did pitch and threw around 88-89 and he was all league.
I couldn't throw a curve or throw strikes, so I never pitched, just knew I could throw high 80s which is why I played CF, RF, LF, 3B, and C depending on who was pitching.

Fastest I ever threw off the mound was 80 but I never pitched much.

My apologies to all the ex college pitchers/players on this thread. It seemed that a disproportionate amount amount of people said they could throw 80+ ... I could be we have a lot of college players on this thread.Why are u assuming these speeds are all from high school?? I hit 87 but not til my Jr year of college....

We've got guys who threw perfect games and guys who were able to play multiple positions due to their super strong arms. Talent galore around here.

I played 7 positions (everything but catcher and SS) during a DH at Waverly my senior year.....3rd and 2nd as a lefty

Yes, Crowder played at Crestwood. I played at Mogadore. I believe Crowders senior year was 1995, but it might have been 1994. I only faced him in one game ever, 1-4 with 3 Ks...he not only threw 90s as a lefty but had a curve that fell off a table and was as fast as most HS pitchers fastballs.balk14;888625 wrote:Why are u assuming these speeds are all from high school?? He was amazing, too bad what happened to his arm in college that ended his chance at playing in the majors.
