Ohio State lost it's head coach, it's starting QB, and several suspended starters due to lack of common sense on the part of Tressel and the Tattooed 5 as well as NCAA absurdity.

The fact that Ohio State is 2-0 at this point should be considered an obvious positive. Barely beating Toledo in The Shoe should come as no surprise. Keep in mind that Toledo is picked as a MAC front-runner in 2011.

If the Buckeyes can travel to Miami and win there, Buckeye fans should consider it a significant accomplishment to be 4-0 when Sparty visits The Shoe.

Ohio State will finish 9-3 or 8-4 at worst this season and will probably wind up in either the Capital One or Outback Bowl. When you stop and think about it, that's not bad for a "recovery" year.

Buckeye fans need to lighten up.

gotta agree. tOSU is bound to have an off year at some point, and with the off season we had, this is sure likely to be the year. Playing in a New years day bowl wouldn't be bad at all considering what happened in the past 12 months.

It will be interesting to see how UT does against Boise St. and OSU against Miami because it sure felt like the Bucks were playing and coaching "vanilla" despite being up against the ropes. I sure hope that's the case or the Bucks are going to lose about 4 games this year.

It's Luke Fickell's biggest problem. He won't win over the fans without playing Miller. Baseman wasn't nearly as bad as some are making him out to be. But if you are going to have mediocre QB play you want it from your freshman not your 26 year old senior.

Sorry, but you're wrong. How are you judging physicality? What I saw most of the day was the OSU defensive line handling UT pretty well, and lots of time getting pressure on the QBs enough to make them have mistakes. Same thing on special teams, especially punts. Toledo got a lot of penalties, in part, because of trying to adjust to what OSU was doing that they had trouble matching up to.

If you're talking about OSU's mostly sad running game, that is squarely on the shoulders of bad play calling, for the most part. Bollman insisted (as did JT when he was there) on running into a stacked defensive line on first down about 80 percent of the time. OSU did nothing to try and loosen up Toledo on the early downs, like passing more or using misdirection. It made it appear that UT was handling OSU but when you're out-manned, it's going to look that way.

Other than that, I saw nothing to make me think UT was more physical than OSU.

I didn't realize OSU rushed for as many yards as they did. But Toledo's defensive front stood up strong to the OSU offensive line.

Probably should have re-worded that better because there are many problems. But I'd say the defense. Toledo, granted they have a solid team for being in the MAC, should never outgain us or score 22 points on us.

But for the rest of the problems..where to start?? Bauserman may not have been accurate one some passes, but look what he has to work with. All new WRs, that obviously arent getting open. I remember many plays where he has 5 seconds to throw the ball, but has to scramble and end up throwing it away because nobody is open. And when somebody is they are dropping the ball that hits them in the numbers on 4th down (Stoney). At least Bauserman makes smart decisions and doesnt turn the ball over. No matter who the QB is, once Posey gets back it should provide some relief.

Offensive line, run blocking anyways is horrid. Minus one big running play, we struggled running against Toledo, without their best defensive player.

Special teams coverage needs work, but whats new. Toledo shouldnt be blocking our punts either. Return game is good though.

On defense...way too many missed tackles. Really frustrating to watch. I think the defensive backs are the strong point, which is not normal for an Ohio State defense.

For now, I'd stick with Bauserman as the full time QB and use Miller like how Florida used Tebow his freshman year. Put him in in certain situations and formations against better teams in tougher situations and see how he does. If he looks good, make him the QB. JMO though

The defense really only gave up 2 scores to a very good Toledo offense.

Also, our runningbacks aren't hitting the cutback lanes, much like Brandon Saine never did. Hyde had one run where he had a gaping hole 2 feet to his left, but instead he ran right into the pile.

That play was so frustrating. Biggest hole the offensive line created all day and Hyde runs into the back of his OL. I was really surprised Berry didn't get any carries as well.

I imagine the rotation next week will be Hyde and Berry. Smith has probably earned himself a spot as the "blowout" RB.

I too would like to see Berry run the ball. OSU lacks speed on offense, someone who will keep the defense honest. By all accounts, Berry is that speed/scat back.

Again, I'll stick with my predication that this team loses 3/4 games. BUT..we need to remember, OSU is missing something like 7(?) starters right now. If OSU can somehow survive at Miami, then get a win vs Colorado. Who knows about MSU, its at home. At that point, they will then have the suspended starters back going into Nebraska. A tough chore, no question. But this team will look significantly different talent wise than they do right now.
But again, the QB position is the question mark. I don't know if Miller had a bad week of practice to the point the coaches have lost confidence, or what. But he needs to play. He gives OSU another dimension in the backfield as far as his running/scrambling ability.

Joe Bauserman was back to being himself Saturday, as I and many others have said all along (also Mike Belotti on ESPN has also said) Ohio State stands no chance of beating good teams with Bauserman playing QB, he just isn't very good. Will Braxton Miller be the cure all? probably not right now but at least he has an upside and will improve whereas Joe is as good as he'll ever be. ( He had that same deer in the headlights look on his face when the going got tough that he always has) I agree with the previous posts about Hyde and Smith, they miss the hole at least 75% of the time and have no vision for a cutback ( I never thought that I'd be wishing for Boom Herron to return but he is far better (at least at this point) than either one of these guys are) I thought the defense played just OK not great, the blocked punt was what got UT going and give them some credit they do have a few playmakers on their team (Page would look great in Scarlet and Grey) I would have liked to have seen Shazier play on defense instead of just special teams he brings a lot more speed to the defense. Overall a win is a win but a lot of improvement needs to be made if this team is going to be 5-0 when the suspended players return, I'm thinking 4-1 maybe even 3-2 but we'll know a lot more after the Miami game.

Speaking of the running backs, not sure if anyone paid attention, but for comparison's sake Temple piled up 305 yards rushing on Akron this weekend for 6.2 yards per rush. The Buckeyes managed 4.4 yards per rush against Akron, for 224 yards.

Then of course the 3.3 yard average against Toledo for 112 yards. There's no way Berry is THAT bad of a running back that he shouldn't have at least been given a shot.

Definitely not a good reflection of Hyde, Smith, or the offensive line thus far.

The biggest downfall from this game was not being able to get Braxton any live snaps. Really surprised that Fickell did not work him in early on. As others have (probably) said, Bauserman is not the answer and will struggle against faster, more athletic defenses. Unfortunately for him, Miami is already up. By all indications, Braxton is not a "me-first" type of individual, so I think his psyche was not damaged by not playing. I do fully expect him to get time this week. Who knows, maybe the lack of film on Miller will be a negative for Miami? Can't wait for this one.

Our running game is terrible. Berry should have gotten a chance on Saturday as Hyde and Smith don't have the vision needed for this type of running game. If our running game works half decent our passing game will be very successful. If not we won't score any points, as evidenced by Saturday's performance. If it continues like this I suggest we put Berry and Miller in the backfield and run the read option and then pass plays off of that. Anything is more effective than what we are doing now.
