Is New Mexico State any good? OU rarely wins on the west coast

No, not really. But then again, neither was Wyoming a few years back and they lost both games by a combined two points.

The entire state of New Mexico sucks at football. OU should win. Even though Miami lost today, still the chance for this to be a very solid opening weekend for the MAC.

Not sure what has happened. Ohio had a 30+ point lead and the secondary quit playing. NMSU had 11 rushing yards at the end of the third.

Cats still up 44-24 with ~4 minutes left, but this was 44-10 near the end of third.

When you're leading by 34 going into the 4th quarter, you let your bench get some playing time.

Led the team in receiving yards. If I remember correctly, I think it was 3 catches for 67 yards?

The great:
  • With a brand new starting four on the defensive line, NMSU had 6 rushing yards on 23 attempts.
  • Punter Paul Hershey with an 80 yard punt. He punted the ball from his own 10 yard line (line of scrimmage was the 20) and it hit on the other 10 before rolling out the back of the endzone.
  • Zero sacks allowed.
  • Prevented NMSU from completing a fourth down conversion, 0 for 2.
  • Holding NMSU to 1 field goal in its 3 redzone attempts.
  • Ran the ball exceptionally well (241 yards on 47 attempts)
The good:
  • 11 different receivers from only 17 completions. (211 yards passing)
  • 5 of 16 third down conversions allowed (was 2 of 12 at one point)
  • Every punt from Hershey went for a fair catch, touchback, or wasn't returnable.
  • 5 punts/51.0 yards average

The bad:
  • Giving up 362 yards through the air on 41 attempts (although much of it was in the 4th quarter)
  • Giving up a 97 yard kickoff return moments after having returned a punt for a TD. Can't be trading points with the better teams on the schedule.

That's right. A friend who lives out west was calling me Saturday night to give score updates. Forgot about that. Drinking at 11:30 a.m. = late afternoon and evening events occasionally getting erased from brain.

Glad to hear OU started the season 1-0. I'll probably make it down to a few of their games. Disappointed in the lack of a key OOC game though
