In the CW/Kenton game the officials missed some obvious calls.

2-3 times CW had 12 men in the huddle..they break huddle and it looksl ike the guy was in motion but runs all way off field.

Also....a backward pass they called incomplete. I about crapped my pants it was so bad. I didnt see it....but soem others on the goalline said that a fumble call by the refs was a bad one as the QB had crossed the plain...and another time they said the QB never crossed the goalline. Also a very questionable call to allow time on the clock for a team to enough time to spike it to stop the clock for another play.

and in case anyone thinks I am a sore loser.....of those calls I said that were bad..........all but one BENEFITTED the team I was rooting for.

Officials are homos.

Keep in mind, folks...that much like the players/coaches/star radio announcers...this is the officials first game of the year. They're always a little rusty and make some mistakes. It's high school football. No one is out to get Hicksville....except for the blacks. Blacks hate racist hicks.

It is illegal to have 12 men in the huddle? Must be a new rule I did not hear about.

Was the ball placed sideways towards the sidelines? The center can move the ball and even tilt it, as long as he does not pick it up.

LOL... Oh, he serious. I know you want to sound smart, but you can have 12, 13, 14 guys in a huddle. You just can't break a huddle with more than 11 guys.

HURRRRRRRRRRRRP.

Not all the time, Yesterday saw the Referee throw a flag on what looked like a late hit on the QB... "It was", there was the Ref, the QB, and oncoming defender in the backfield. The Ref throws the flag for the late hit. After the "O" caught the pass for 20 yds., the Ref picks up the flag and waves it off.

The team I was there for was on Defense, it should have been called, it was clearly a late and deliberate hit on the QB. The ref should not be on the field if that is the way he is calling the game.

Interesting, I have some questions. What level is this? How old was this official? Please tell me where the next snap should occur from and the status of the clock.

ETB,

I have been waiting patiently, where are the spin off thread? You could start one with bad coaching, bad concessions, bad pass blocking, bad parking. Let me know if you need any more ideas.

SOAU... You know, you should ask the football forum Mod to sticky a thread, "Ask the Ref." I do that in basketball. Might be a useful thread!

I might know about 95% of the high school stuff. I posted a thread in college forum about rules, but I suspect that it might be a whine fest, amirite?

I say they should sticky this thread in the high school forum. It would be epic.

The purpose of the thread was to get legitimate rules complaints (like the helmet complaint), but you and I both know that will be damn near impossible (to get legitimate rules complaints).

(Let's keep this to legitimate complaints)

In a big game b/t Archbold (NWOAL) @ Hicksville (GMC), the calls were extremely one sided. I'm not going to get into the details, b/c calls are calls, and I can honestly say that the officials did not lose the game for Hicksville, nor did they win the game for Archbold. However, they had TOO MUCH of a role in the game. As an official, one thing that is unwritten is, "a good officiating crew goes un-noticed." Well, that was not the case last night. I will only list the legitimate complaints (not the holds, or the pass interferences) that I have a huge problem with in that game.

#1 - The white hat in the game (referee) was the commissioner of the NWOAL... visiting (winning) team

#2 - Archbold QB is about to get sacked, loses his helmet, then runs around for 5 more seconds before completing a first down pass. Per the rule book, play should stop IMMEDIATELY. Archbold was on the winning end of that botched infraction, but can you imagine if the QB took one to the head, knocked out some teeth, and the officials didn't stop the game?

#3 - I knew a few of the guys on the crew personally, and know for a fact that they have no business being in the Varsity atmosphere, regardless of sport.

I'd just like to see what some other OC'ers LEGITIMATE complaints are. The loss-of-helmet one just blows my mind.
On the play you described, word I heard is that the ball was not in the QB possession, he was juggling it. Therefore, if the ball was not in his POSSESSION, the helmet rule did not apply.

Breaking the huddle with 12 men is not a foul in high school. It is a foul in NCAA & NFL. A replaced player has three seconds to leave the field. No miss by the crew on that one. Can not comment on the other stuff, but I can say when in doubt, a backward pass is forward. Angles can make things look a lot different.

Seems like your team's always gets the benefit of the doubt. No doubt why the same officials always seem to work there in both your favorite sports;)

Did that change? I know CW has been called for it over the years.

The backward pass was def a backward pass. It was right where I was sitting...and the first thought when it was thrown backwards was it was going to be a double pass...but it was dropped.

My apologies to the officials if that was the case. I amd 99.9 sure that CW has been called for that before. Matter of fact..the one time ya could heard the Kenton coaches yelling (too many men in huddle) while jumping up and down like crazy.

but anyways...thanks for the clarification.

I am completely and utterly stunned that the coaches don't know the rule either. They get a rule book every year just like the official do.

Did that rule change at all? I know our team has been called for it before. Have seen the flag thrown before they even got to the LOS.
The one time they broke the huddle with 12. The extra guy ran off the field, and until he got ot the sideline you didnt even know it as it looked like he was just flanking out wide with the rest of the receivers.

When I worked in high school the rule did not exist. It always has been a substitution rule.

Is it possible they were calling it an illegal substitution when they indeed did get it called?

He scrambled, lost his helmet, scrambled some more, completed a pass for a first down. Seems pretty easy to me... he had possession.

The wording of the rule changed last year from must "immediately leave the huddle" to "within 3 seconds". That help? The term breaking the huddle with 12 men has been enforced incorrectly in high school. There is no such rule, never has been. Only in NCAA and NFL. Some crews have NCAA officials who mix up the two. Very easy to do.
