Red Lion is making their first of three trips to Ohio this week as they take on the three-time defending state champion Ursuline Irish.
Kickoff is at 7:30pm at YSU Stambaugh Stadium.
Red Lion was in the USAToday this past week because they gave up the chance to compete in the DE playoffs so they can recruit the best possible talent in that region to play football there. Here is the article: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/2011-08-16-red-lion-christian-delaware-football_n.htm
Their freshman QB is the well known kid nationwide that committed to USC as a 7th grader. Not sure if he will get his first high school start Friday or not.
As an aside, Ursuline won their toughest scrimmage on Thursday Night, defeating Canton Glenoak 12-7 in Canton. Ursuline shut down 5-star running back Brionte Dunn for Glenoak.
Predictions!

To OHIO
Just want to clear up a few things, there is a lot of talk and rumors, must of which are negative, biased and flat out untruths. RLCA is an actual "Delaware school", it is located in Bear, Delaware. All of the players reside in Delaware, 90% were even born in the state and have never lived elsewhere. We can recruit, not sure how much we do because our roster is the same as it was last year with only 2 new kids, that I know of. One of them i know personally and he was born in Christiana Hospital 2 weeks before my son. We are a small private school with enrollment less than 1000 for High School. Because of the jealousy by haters and the cowardice of many local schools and coaches, we withdrew from the DIAA. That had nothing to do with recruiting or anything else. We simply wanted to play the best competition we could find. ........... Obviously we could have chosen less talented competition, but why do that, we want to be the best, so we challenge the best. Therefore we will be playing Ursuline on Friday and making two more trips to Ohio in the next few weeks. If you check our schedule there are no slouches, We play all ranked and regarded opponents.

Just to expand on what the other DE parent was saying.. All but a handfull of kids are DE kids. Most live within 30 minutes of the school The ones that arent come from nearby states due to the school being located in what is called the tri state area.. MD, PA, NJ lines all within 10-20 minutes from the school.. But only two or three players are from those states we have many other students that are from the neigboring states but not football players.. Other private schools in the Wilmington area have many more PA/NJ kids on roster.. Not that it matters really it is due to the locale of the schools.. Contrary to rumors RL does not solicit football players from other schools.. What they did was build great facilities, start a training program and a financial aide prgram for students who need it. It is a needs based financial aide program where the need is determined by the FACT national financial aide service that most private schools use. Its called FOCAS and you can google it it has a website. For what ever reason the DIAA in DE wants to call it athletic scholarship so RL made the deal (The deal does not allow RL to recruit from other High Schools) they did so they could play their schedule, start early like the teams we play and continue to offer needs based aide. .. There was immediate interest and the kids came.. mosty all freshman or middle school and most the kids kind of recruited each other to the school as they played or knew eachther from their rec teams... Red Lion is not interested in going after other high school players,, It serves no purpose.. Really RLCA operates no differently them most private schools everywhere.
As for the 2 Canada kids they are from the same school in Ottawa and they seeked out Red Lion one is a DE and one is a kicker/punter.. They were looking for a school in the states to learn the US game better and get offers.. They met some of our players at a combine event and one struck a friendship with one of our players and wanted to look into coming to our school from that.. Most privates cant accept senior transfers but in our case we had no seniors on the team.. These two are our only seniors... Needless to sat DE is way behind when it comes the current climate of high school football and without getting too much into what happened thats the gist of it and we are so excited to come play teams from Ohio Win or lose our boys wil get better and thats all we want... See you all tomorrow..

Nothing small about your school. Ursuline has around 450 students and that may be stretching it.
