I don't understand why that needed a "you serious clark?" response...There usually is a Heisman invite that was on no ones radar before the season started.

Jordo probably said the same thing to someone last year who said Cam Newton.

Cam Newton didn't play for Northwestern

What? Auburn has been one of the best programs in the country since Pat Dye and Bo Jackson.

You can't possibly put them in the same sentence with Northwestern.

Huh? Auburn was undefeated as recently as 2004. Plus Newton was a big-time recruit. He was a highly sought after before last season.

Which won't be until B1G play starts. ;)

Edit: I should have kept reading. I was beat to the punch!

I'm still in shock that S&L had no clue about the history of Auburn. I mean heck they have even been great recently. 2 undefeated seasons over the past 10 years is nothing to sneeze at.

Persa can't / won't win the Heisman simply because he plays at Northwestern. The award almost exclusively goes to the best player on the best team. There arent a lot of guys from 7-5 teams standing up on the podium

I'm talking about 8-5, 5-7, and 9-4 the last 3 seasons..it's not like they've been mid 2000s Auburn is what I meant.

Can't forget about the murderer's row of good defenses in the Big 10. We've got Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois and Purdue! Those teams would scare anybody

Yeah I have no clue about the history of Auburn

Wasn't Tebow on an 8-5 team?

2 undefeated seasons in the past 10 years. Ohio State hasn't even done that. Nobody can win every year, down years happen. To say that Auburn has been anything less than good recently is kind of asinine. Did you forget about 2004 or something?

Did you see my post about talking about the previous 3 seasons to their undefeated 2010 season?

Besides..the point is, no one had Cam Newton in their preseason heisman hopeful list, and he did it. Yes NW is no Auburn, but it's not like Auburn was setting the college football world on fire.

Notice I didn't say that it never happens. How much would you like to bet that Persa is nowhere close to New York come Heisman time next year? Nobody from a middling Northwestern school is ever going to get an invite. Persa is going to have to go undefeated next year to be in the running. Perennial powers play by different rules when it comes to this sort of thing.

I dont think Persa is going to make it to NY...pointing out that longshots do happen means I think a longshot is going to happen this year? And it specifically be Dan Persa from NW?

Could be like the SEC, we've got Miss St, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt. Real powerhouses there.

????

South Carolina had a strong defense last year and won their division of the SEC? haha Might want to research a little before you speak up next time.

and Miss St beat the bejesus out of Michigan in the bowl game

Exactly. You know the SEC is bad when South Carolina wins a division LOL. A freaking division!

And who hasn't beaten the bejesus out of Michigan the last couple years?

The point still stands, every conference has their Purdue, Indiana, and Illinois' of the world, but only 1 has 4 of the top 7 all time winningest programs.

Teams in the Big 10 have been playing football much longer than many other schools / conferences. Naturally they are going to have more wins than the next guys

The way I see it, the NCAA, and certainly the Heisman selection committee both are nursing black eyes. Reggie Bush, soon to be Cam Newton, I mean what's so difficult to comprehend about putting a guy in NY that has played well and followed the rules at NW which isn't exactly Heidelberg? Don't confuse me saying Dan Persa is an effin' NFL prospect...he's certainly not, but he does embody what the award is supposed to be about, and given the state of the NCAA and certainly the Heisman committee, should they decide to re-base themselves, Persa foots the bill.

Long shot? Yeah...but not naive.

Do you really think the NCAA really cares what the award is really about though?
