Fair share as in, middle to bottom of the pack most of the time? But back to your original point, why does the Big XII-II "need" TCU?

If they are going to add schools, they are going to add teams that can contribute in football first. Just look back at this past time. Missouri was a target and Kansas was not. There were alot of nervous people in Kansas.
Why else would the PAC 10 choose Utah? Haha. It's about football
Look no one is saying KU is the Big Ten's first choice. Even I concede it's not the greatest get as a conference. But they do fit in academically, have a national brand, and can bring in a new market for the conference--which is basically the purpose of this realignment talk. My point is if you need to add 4 teams, they are certainly in contention.

i'd buy this argument. there just isn't a pressing need for a team besides a&m and the sec isn't going to go with 13. also, big ten should snag missouri

TCU won the Rose Bowl.
Good point. I think TCU could compete in any conference, including the SEC. Things evolve over time. And last year, TCU would have annihilated Texas and all their big star recruits.

enigmaax, my contention with the SEC announcement that they're simply waiting for formalities and to secure a fourteenth team to make it easier for the schedule next year (an odd number of teams would decimate every member's schedule because another week in the conference schedule would be needed and a lot of non-conf games would be lost/reworked/etc).
Texas A&M wouldn't be talking openly if there wasn't a VERY good chance of them joining the SEC. They're not Missouri who whored themselves out to the B1G but got left at the alter.

Don't know if this link has been posted but here's a College Football News take on upcoming Super Conferences: http://cfn.scout.com/2/1095821.html
Another opinion: http://cfn.scout.com/2/1095334.html
The Big Ten
Leaders
Indiana, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Wisconsin
Legends
Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern
The rumors will keep swirling about Missouri going to the SEC, but the Big Ten will pounce to give Illinois a natural geographic rival. And then the big fish will be reeled in. Notre Dame will make a big stink about possibly going to the Pac-18 or the SEC, but academically and geographically, the pressure will be too much to not join the Big Ten. The appeasement will be getting put in the same division as Indiana, Purdue, Pitt, Rutgers, and Syracuse, keeping some semblance of the Big East basketball world intact.
The BTN wants TV markets, and it’ll snap up Rutgers and Syracuse to go along with Pitt, creating a whale of a rivalry date with Penn State.
No one really wants Iowa State, and it’s not a great fit for the Big Ten, but it’ll be an easy fit in the same division as Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri.
Another opinion: http://cfn.scout.com/2/1095334.html
Big Ten - What It Is
Leaders – Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin
Legends – Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern
The 2014 Version Will Probably Be …
Leaders – Indiana, Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse
Legends – Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin
The Big Ten wanted Texas, but that was never going to happen with the Longhorn Network in the works. The BTN is going to be a cash machine if the right ad markets are added to the mix, and New York is the right ad market. Connecticut will be in the discussions, but there’s no need for the Huskies if the Big Ten can get a few other key Big East schools. The idea of bringing in Pitt didn't seem to matter before, considering the league already owns Pennsylvania with Penn State, but with Missouri likely off to the SEC, and with no interest in Iowa State or Kansas, getting Pitt gets another decent market while setting up some nice rivalry games. Rutgers and Syracuse will bring in New York City, Buffalo, and everywhere in between, and Maryland expands the TV reach to Baltimore and Washington D.C. Illinois and Wisconsin will move over from the Leaders Division with the Illini being paired with Northwestern and the Badgers having a natural tie-in with Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

That makes sense. I can't imagine they'd want to paint themselves into a corner of just having to take someone to fill a spot. So unless they'd agreed and received a commitment from a 14th team, the smart move is to hold off.Sykotyk;862650 wrote:enigmaax, my contention with the SEC announcement that they're simply waiting for formalities and to secure a fourteenth team to make it easier for the schedule next year (an odd number of teams would decimate every member's schedule because another week in the conference schedule would be needed and a lot of non-conf games would be lost/reworked/etc).
That's the thing - it isn't as though a school hasn't made themselves look like idiots in the recent past. You would think a school would be smarter, but TAM is pissed off and could have just been spouting off a little too soon.Texas A&M wouldn't be talking openly if there wasn't a VERY good chance of them joining the SEC. I can see what makes sense there but I don't see the Big East crumbling and breaking down into another league without some sort of a fight, considering they just expanded by adding TCU as well

I heard Texas was taking shots at A&M for exploring a move to better its situation. I got a good laugh at that. I mean, hello, did Texas already forget that they were one of the main movers and shakers during the past expansion talks? They basically forced the Big 12 to let them get what they wanted by telling them that they would leave. The hypocrisy is outstanding.

Rumor out of Austin is that Texas is trying to recruit Notre Dame to come to the Big 12...lol good luck with that, Texas.

Missouri to the BIG would be interesting, as apparently, they felt a bit butthurt when Nebraska got the invite and they didn't and sent an FOIA request wanting emails involving expansion.
This FOIA included emails between Tressel and Osbourne and is what uncovered the Cicero emails, and led to where Ohio State is today, fending off the NCAA.

This would be an interesting explanation if you've got one

The commissioner of the Big East had a sit-down the past day or so with the commissioners of the Big 12 and the ACC regarding conference realignment.

Texas A&M offered its official notice to the Big XII that it is looking elsewhere. Sounds as though they'll stay put for the required time according to the league agreement.

It does seem strange they would pull out without another conference already set to go to.gorocks99;877332 wrote:A&M now denying the previous reports: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6909072/texas-aggies-spokesman-denies-school-sent-withdrawal-letter-big-12

They have to announce their intent to leave the conference before the SEC can officially invite them. That has been the hold up since the rumors first started flying.
