My son is a huge Marvel comics fans. He tells me the villians for the movie will likely be Loki and a group called The Skrulls, a race of shape shifters from the comic books.

Agree, Superman Returns was so terrible that Singer and company were told to take a hike, no idea how anyone could have possibly liked that film. I enjoyed Spider-Man though.

The problem with comic book movies is that they cater to a group that likely already knows the history and progression of the main character, so there are shortcuts in writing the development of the protagonist. Another problem is with the finance aspect of Hollywood, once a comic book movie becomes a hit there is pressure to develop sequels ASAP without regard to quality - Iron Man 2 is an example of this. That film is terrible (critic viewpoints aside), it was a rushed sequel that had 2 action scenes - the first completely incomprehensible and the second a video game, yet because of the success of Iron Man and the fanboy contingent poor writing is acceptable.

Well I was hoping for a couple big villains but I suppose this will have to do.

Couple of big villians turns the movie into Batman & Robin or spiderman 3. Trust me, its better when the film is focused on one vilian.
