I'm not trying to slam your schedule. The staff at Big Red does their homework by scheduling the out of state points cows and playing a couple of games a year that actually challenge them. Most of your games have the reserves playing the second half. Very smart but if you are going to compare yourself and say you could beat a team such as Bosco last year why don't they schedule them or another national powerhouse?

Yes I follow Edison and they are not a good program. That is another discussion.

I think Reno does a tremendous job scheduling .. Last year we played several huge schools with alot of kids .. 8 playoff teams I think .. Every once in awhile the stars line up and we get very good talent and size with our excellant coaching staff .. The problem with scheduling superpowers like Bosco and others is depth .. we play teams like that week in and week out we will be hurting by the end of the year .. All you local should be proud of the Red .. We represent this area very well. We are your big brother and we carry that flag with pride . We play for the Ohio valley as well as our city ... All us Big Red people pull for all the other valley teams when they play out of state comp and playoff opponents

A quick question about West Virginia: When the new stadium at Weir High is built, where will Weirton Madonna play? At Jimmy Carey Stadium or at the new stadium at Weir High? And if they do leave to follow Weir High, what will happen to the old stadium.

Not a nice stadium, but it does have a blue collar character about it.

Not sure . Although a game between those two would be good for Weirton i think ..

Thanks. I agree. I still think Catholic Central and Big Red should play again. But, that looks like it will never happen now.

As mentioned before on Big Red threads, Big Red doesn't schedule games to settle bar room bets, they schedule to try and win the state title. And to do that, you have to make the playoffs first.

I feel Big Red can contend with most teams in the country but possibly the few 'elite' teams out there in any given year. The problem is Big Red couldn't do that every game. They'd be decimated by injuries, etc. Big Red has a good team but is a small school where a lot of players have to play both ways in order to succeed. But, to play regular season games like that, is just too much and would probably eliminate a chance at the playoffs by playing murderer's row.

Big Red does have Akron Buchtel (great season opener, good team usually), Massillon (a real tough game and draws a huge crowd) and Ursuline (who are traditionally good) to and fill the schedule in around them with a mix of locals willing to play (East Liverpool, Brooke) and out-of-state teams that are regulars (Buffalo St. Joe's, Cardinal O'Hara, Baltimore Mt. St. Joseph). Two recent additions are Morgantown (second year, they're now in the OVAC, so despite the travel are a conference game) and a fill-in with the second Canadian team, Bishop Ryan.

We just recently lost Wheeling Park off the schedule. Despite our record against them, they were a big local conference school that we played home-and-home for about a decade. As for the St. Joe's and O'Hara, if they want to keep playing, we'll keep hosting. If they want to keep at it, so be it. In 2005, St. Joe's had a powerful team and was easily the toughest game Big Red had all year en route to the state title.

A lot of years, St. Joe's is average at best. So be it. Those games are our 'conference' games. Annual matchups with teams.

With as much realignment that has gone on in eastern Ohio, we have as much certainly playing these 8 or 9 teams five years from now as any team playing conference opponents.
