This. The sound of that damn drill while sitting in the waiting room sends shivers up my spine. I remember when I was in my early 20's and needed a cavity filled. The dentist shoots me up with some Novocaine. He comes back a few minutes later ready to drill. I am thinking I don't think the Novocaine has had enough time to set in. But I keep my cool thinking the dentist knows what is best. As soon as that drill hit my tooth he hit the nerve. Immediately he quit and shot me up with some more Novocaine.
This time he came back about 10 minutes later. I felt a little numb but it did not seem like enough. He drilled for a few seconds and hit the nerve and I come up out of my chair. I hit his hand and the drill went into my cheek. I bled like a stuck pig. He gave me a little shit like it was my fault for not holding still.
He calmed down and shot me up good with Novocaine. He told me he had enough Novocaine in me to down a small animal. Left me set about 20 minutes. It felt like the left side of my face was paralyzed. He came back and I could not feel a thing. He told me to spit in the tray and I had no power. I had to just let it drool out. It took several hours for it to wear off.
Dentists sometimes fish to get a patients tolerance. Saves them some money on the Novocaine. Ever since I tell the dentist up front he better shoot me up good or there will be trouble.
