I dont really see alot of people going under the limit on the highways actually.

For instance, a large part of US 35 between Gallipolis and Chillicothe is 60mph, even w/ a part of that being limited access. Then, just West of Chillicothe on US 35, the speed limit is 65mph. All of this is 4-lane highway. It makes zero sense.

True, Ohio is lucky to have major thoroughfares for shipping, which means alot of truck traffic. Unfortunately, the corporate tax is so high, that we don't use what we have to its maximum potential, but thats for a different thread.Iliketurtles;836781 wrote:I think the problem with Ohio is there are so many more semi's then in other states. Anytime I travel on I-75 to go south I see so many more in Ohio then in other states.
Belly35;836802 wrote:WTF when wasn’t the speed limit 70MPH in Ohio?
Back in the 60/70’s …. 70 MPH was the slowest you could go 85-90 MPH was standard
WebFire;836935 wrote:It was 65 until just a few years ago. I can remember when SR 15 by Findlay was 55.

Michigan people don't even care thats for sure, whenever I go to Detroit i set cruise on 80 and just fly and still get passed up I-75. Ha only takes about 45 minutes from Detroit to Toledo

Drove autobahn once from Cologne Germany to border of Netherland......problem was going roughly 125-130 on autobahn...then trying to stay at the speed limit of ( I think) 65 mph once you cross the border. The Netherlands use freaking speeding cameras. So 6 months after getting back to the states I get a speeding ticket in the mail from the dept of motor vehicles ( or whatever it is called in the Netherlands) for equivalent of 250 us dollars...........now that sucked..Raw Dawgin' it;836529 wrote:I want to experience the autoban just once. Just watched a video of a Porche 911 GT3 hit 199mph on it. We need that system in the states for the fun of driving and population control

I-71 is just crawling compared to those other states due to this it seems. Plus, you have to be going insanely fast to get a ticket in the southern states.....I was going 85 in Georgia and looked in my mirror as a Statey was coming up behind me. He jumped out one lane and flew right past me without even a thought of pulling me over it seemed.
Classyposter58;837202 wrote:That's misleading, we live in a very populated state. Look at the fatality rate to really get an idea of whether or not the state is overly dangerous, for instance 3.5% of crashes in Nevada were fatal while Ohio was only at 1%

Guess what rank Ohio is in population? 7th.
http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2011/tables/11s0013.pdf
It makes SENSE for Ohio to have the 7th most fatal accidents.
Edit: I did some number crunching in Excel...Ohio is the 15th (best) in terms of best accidents per millions of people ratio. Out of a million people, there were 0.8 deaths in car accidents.
"Best" state was Massachusetts (.5 deaths) per millions of people
Worst state was Wyoming (ironically, also ranked 50th in population) with almost 2.5 deaths per million people
Also, **** you for making me re-learn Excel to prove you wrong.
