What about the news of Wynalda "finally" getting his coaching break? He is the new "interim" manager of the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL.

Anything to keep him off the television analyzing...

2016 Copa America (a special Copa America commemorating 100 years) will be played in the US: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2888/north-america/2012/07/04/3221201/the-united-states-will-host-2016-copa-america-says-femexfut?source=breakingnews

W
onder if this is a step toward unified WC qualification...it would make it infinitely harder for the US to qualify, but they'd be forced to play solid teams.

That link didnt really say it, but from what I am reading it sounds the Copa America will not only take place in the USA, but will include 16 teams. These teams will come from BOTH Comnebol and Concacaf. So the USA will actually be in the tourney, as well as, likely, Mehico.

This would mean we would have a 24 team Euro Tourney followed by a 16 team Copa America(s) tourney. AWESOME!

Yes - sounds like all 10 CONMEBOL and 6 CONCACAF. If it happens the same time as Euro, I may have to take weeks off from work - Euro during the day, Copa America at night. SOCCER HEAVEN.

I was reading how that would work. I think they said July 1 will be the final of the Euro, and July 2 will be the start of Copa America. They the Olympics in late July. ESPN has the rights to the Euros...if Copa goes at the same time, and they cant cover both (they could, time wise...but likely wouldnt) I wonder who will snatch up the Copa coverage. US/Mexico will make for pretty substantial bidding wars. God I hope/cant wait for this to happen!

FIFA has given goal-line technology the "go-ahead."

This better not stop the game...I will HATE any other stoppages for any sort of replay.

MLS (Montreal) get the best defender in league history. Alessandro Nesta has signed.

Too bad he's 36. Should still be pretty good though (certainly better than 90% of MLS'ers)

Interesting article from the NY Times yesterday about young CONCACAF and CONMEBOL players choosing to use MLS as a springboard to Europe: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/05/sports/soccer/mls-seen-as-steppingstone-to-europe-for-promising-young-players.html?_r=3

Charlie Davies has moved on to Denmark.

Park Ji-sung has left Manchester United for QPR. I won't miss him in Red...hard not to root for him at QPR though.

My friend just called to tell me he is hearing (from Clint Dempseys Agent) that Arsenal have accepted 13 Million plus David Villa for RVP.

Pretty solid move for both clubs Id think. Villa is still a deadly striker, RVP might be more the pure scorer to go along with Messi that Barca need. Now they would have Messi as well as a guy whos first instinct is to go to goal. Havent had that since Eto'o.

Also would put Cesc and RVP back together.

EDIT: Nothing official. But my friend talks to Dempseys Agent weekly, as he represents some of the guys on his team as well.

I disagree 100% because I have no confidence at all that RVP stays healthy for a whole season again.

Diego Forlan moves to Brazil's Internacional...unfortunately. It would've been awesome to see him in the MLS.

Michael Bradley moves on to AS Roma, I'll be keeping up with him there, could be a good fit.

76ers owners are potentially buying a share of DC United. Could be a great move? I'd like to see some real marketing and major monies get thrown into the MLS teams other than NYRB and LA.

Villa is going to have a terrible season this year. I liken him to Eduardo from a few years ago

I agree about RVP. Should be nice to see him and Messi attacking the goal together... I think this move puts Barca back atop La Liga.

Nooooooo don't leave North London. :(

That will suck if this does go down, but I won't be THAT mad. Villa is another one of my favorite players and I wanted him a few season's ago when when I saw a rumor that Arsenal was interested. I hope he bounces back from the injury regardless of who he plays for.
