Montpellier is goin DOWN!

Also, I downloaded FIFA '13 last night. I only played a few games, but so far so good. Mad Mario scored a nice placed R1 shot for my first goal.

Real coming out pretty strong at home versus City. I think if they dont score in the 1st half (ie arent winning), we may see them press and City come out of here with a win, and a huge win it would be. Any points on the road in this group will be hard earned and go a long way.

I can honestly see a scenario where any combination of the 4 teams makes it out.

Gotta say that those 3 goals for Real were prettttty weak. They had so many chances, you cant say they didnt deserve goals. But a deflection, a near post roller and a screened goal. Hart shouldve made the save on Benzema, imo and then Marcelo with a deflection and Ronaldo shot right at him but Hart didnt see it. Just overall pretty weak. But great game. Wouldve been huge for Man City to get a point, or even steal 3.

So...through 14 home games this year, the average is 14,346 (reportedly). It's the best average since 2004 and 2007 through 14 games. Can they do it? I still believe the number is a bit inflated, especially after seeing the number in the stands tonight against Chivas.

I hope it continues to increase. I plan on going to a couple more in October, I believe Sunday games...

As most of us have said, soccer is really popular amoung our age group (though this is actually YOUNGER than most of us, which is awesome). But its not growing...

I think Fifa has done what Madden did for the NFL, in all honesty.

Great read! Thanks for posting that.

Some tidbits that I've been saying for several years:
MLS's problem is they only have 19 teams and no regular national television presence
A generation of kids have now grown up as having MLS as part of their reality. Give us one more cycle and that is all it will take. One more generation.
Based on the way it is trending, I believe global soccer will soon be four or five times bigger than it is today, and MLS's fanbase will triple or quadruple.
This is the "culture" we need -- that we don't have even within the "soccer community." Many of the "soccer people" still just enjoy it, it's not necessarily something they care THAT much about.
It is a true community. The only group that comes close are college sports fans or followers of the Grateful Dead. They embrace soccer as a communal lifestyle as opposed to a personal experience or a community that only exists on gameday.

I agree. I got halfway through when work called. I plan on reading the rest when I get home tonight. Right now we seem to have 2 generations watching 25-35 and 12-25. When we get that third generation, and can essentially have 12-45/50 that will allow the ratings and sales to do the talking. Soccer will be readily available, imo.

Pretty cool article will definitely be interesting to see if those things actually happen in about 10-15 years.

Only 19 teams? That seems like a pretty good number, at least for a top division.

Everton looking good so far today. Controlled the first thirty minutes, or so, and they got a goal out of it. Swansea picked up the pressure the last fifteen minutes of the half, creating opportunities of their own. However, Everton got another one off a counter before half, and it deflated the sails of the Swans...

Nathan Dyer picks up two yellow cards in quick succession, leading to his dismissal. Other than his two challenges, Swansea has looked pretty timid at times. Everton is just out-hustling them to the ball and stepping in front whenever the ball is coming to a Swansea player.

Did anyone preorder FIFA13?

I need to do it and want it on Tuesday (or is it Wednesday?). What's the best way to do it without midnight pickup or any other late-nighter going on?

I doubt you'll have any issues just walking in the store and getting it. Some places will even have it earlier. I had 12 last year like 5 days before the official release. I may go to the same store tomorrow to see if they can hook it up again.

I'll probably do that, but won't buy it regardless. Not a huge gamer to begin with, and there are just other games (NBA 2k, assassin's creed) that I want more coming up here.

I didn't like '12 either, but I'm thinking '13 is pretty much the same except some fixes, tweaks, etc.

I really didn't like the online mode last year for 'ranked matches'....had some dumbas "Live Season" format. I hope they go back to the format of old.

I like the new season mode(s).

You can create-a-player and play a season. You can be called up throughout the season to play with the national team. You can retire whenever you want THEN become a manager! You can now, finally, be called up as a manager to a national team.

That's a nice addition, that took too long.
