So, I had the pleasure of dining out with some couples this weekend and I witnessed something that irked me and I want to get the chattererer's 100% credible opinions on the matter. A wife of one of the guys ordered something off the menu, it came out, and it was not to her liking. She refused to eat any of it, let it sit there, money down the drain.

Me - I'm the type of person where, if I don't like something, I suck it up and finish it anyway, b/c I am spending money on it. I NEVER let food go to waste when I'm paying for it. I hate wasting money.

Regardless of what the guy said to his wife, she refused to eat her dish (hummus). I'm not a hummus fan anyway, but I tried it. I would not have liked eating the whole thing, but if it was sitting in front of me, I would have stomached it.

What say you? This a pet peeve? Would you stand for your sig. other doing this? Would you dip your balls in the hummus?

I would not eat something that I did not like simply for the sake of it not going to waste. I politely say, no thank you.

If you are such a picky eater that you would simply refuse to eat a dish because you didn't like the taste, I would think hummus would be one of the last things you would consider ordering. If you aren't willing to step outside your comfort zone with new foods then play it safe. In this situation I would have probably said something to my wife prior to her ordering the dish. Because I also hate to see food/money go to waste.

As far as dipping my balls in the hummus, probably pass on that if she didn't like the taste of the hummus.

I agree. I personally am adventurous and will try and do appreciate most things. I answered his general question. If I order something and don't like it I don't eat it, whether it's something I have had before or whether it's something new I am trying.

The pet peeve part is a different question. I certainly have mine but this isn't one of them. I couldn't care any less if someone eats their own food or not.

What do you mean, "it was not to her liking"? Had she never had it before and didn't like it or was it not prepared the way she thought it should be? I don't like wasting money either, but I have ordered food that I would normally like and found I didn't care for that particular version of it. Restaurant didn't necessarily do anything wrong, but I'm not going to eat something I don't like. It happens sometimes.

It depends on how bad it was, if it was prepared incorrectly it is fine to ask the waiter to take it back. If it was that bad not eating it is acceptable. It is hummus, ground up chick peas with olive oil and garlic, how can a restaurant screw that up? If they do then let them know it. My wife LOVES hummus (I find it ok), but it isn't a main dish, you typically order it as an appetizer and use bread/sticks to pick it up.

I love hummus and I'm not a picky eater so I would have probably finished it. My wife will spend half of a meal looking for hair in her food and then freak out when she finds fuzz.

First of all the bitch showed everyone that she uneducated mofo and a self-centered asshole with no confidence.
You must have gone to Mid Eastern Restaurant knowing this she had to expect this type of food and should have been prepared to order something that she many have liked ( Beef/Chichen Shish Kabobs). Little research would have helped or order something off the kid menu. Instead she chose to be an asshole wait till the last minute (most likely she doesn’t like mid eastern cuisine) to order and then take a wild stab at something just to like everyone else. Demonstrates lack of confidence and decision making personality. Plus because of the restaurant she really didn’t want to go there (pissy attitude) and then make an everyone uneasy because of her action of not eating.

The fact that she did eat it is not a big deal, she could have sampled other dishes at the table and quickly order what she liked. Let the others at that table enjoy the add hummus. Then everyone would have felt comfortable enjoyed a full filling meal and she would have looked like a more mature individual that wanted to be there with friends.

Well no offesne but I wouldn't want to date/marry a guy that was too cheap to let me order something I liked. Sounds like she wasn't trying to be a pain. If she normally loves hummus but didn't like this one I don't see how that's her fault. It's not like she ordered something she's never had and then threw a fit.

Lol if you read ETBs earlier post he said the wife said she normally loves hummus but just didn't like this version. So your first paragraph sounds like it is way off.

the guy wasn't too cheap, lol. It was just the principle of his wife not eating what she ordered. To me, it's like a spoiled kid.

This shit happens to me all the time. My wife will order something that she normally likes, but doesn't like a restaurant's take on it. A good server should have seen that your friend's wife wasn't eating and asked if something was wrong. Most of the time, when my wife doesn't like something, they will take it away and bring her out a new dish without charging us.

The bigger question here is...What kind of credible restaurant could possibly fuck up Hummus? Its only smashed up chick peas for Gods Sake. This woman is undoubtedly a high maintenance beeyatch that needs some fine tuning.

We'll have to agree to disagree. If I am paying money for food (or the person I am with is) I think it's important to enjoy it. Like I said...it wasn't like she picked something random. She ordered something she normally loves but didn't like their take. Not her fault.

She ordered something she normally likes, but didn't like this particular restaurants version.

I've had hummus that has a lot of garlic and I love it, but my wife doesn't. (She doesn't like it when I eat it either, but that's a topic for another post :) ) I've also had hummus that was pretty bland, so I can see how there can be a lot of variation in the preparation. I don't think this is a bitch move on her part at all, unless she made a huge deal about it.
