They waived the fine and are paying him $52,000 which is what he would have made in the month of June.the_system;824789 wrote:So ESPN is adding in that OSU has also waived the $250,000 fine? (didn't see that in the dispatch article).

Speaking of this...I wonder if that one Arkansas "fan" that joined the site and started trolling prior to the game will be back?

I bet a buddy a case of beer on the game last year. He paid and I already drank the beer. Do I have to repay the case of beer + 1 case for a Meeechigan win?

I would just piss into a bucket and give it back to him.

If this holds as the punishment -- and I don't see why it wouldn't, given no allegations of LOIC or failure to monitor -- there will be a lot of media teeth gnashing that will take place. I also look for lots of heads to implode on UM and similar sites.

How can you fine someone who doesn't work for you?the_system;824789 wrote:So ESPN is adding in that OSU has also waived the $250,000 fine? (didn't see that in the dispatch article).

This is true. The player punishments (and proposed punishment for JT) were for this coming season (suspensions for 5 games), not for the season already completed.
Since Tressel no longer works for OSU, you can't fine him.

You are a piece of work sometimes. What more do you expect OSU to do? Who cares HOW Tressel is gone, he is gone and thats what counts. Resign, fire or retire. Its all relative to what happened and thats all that counts. The guy screwed up. We all know that. But after 10yrs of what he gave to OSU, the Columbus community and the state of Ohio, I don't think he deserves to be beheaded in Ohio Stadium like you would want. He has done 100x more good then bad. I doubt he could have personally suffered more than what he has already. And in my book, thats enough. OSU did what they should have done. Now we'll see what the NCAA is going to do.

If that's the case, how do you still pay him? As someone mentioned above he was just paid $52,000.Writerbuckeye;824829 wrote:This is true. The player punishments (and proposed punishment for JT) were for this coming season (suspensions for 5 games), not for the season already completed.

Also, do we know what time period the fine is for? He was aware of playing players who should have been sitting the entire year. He was paid for that season, as well as the bonus money from the bowl game win, big ten title, etc. My question is, how can't you fine him to get some of that money back that was obtained in a shady way?

How did firing Jim O'Brien work out for OSU? I know this is a different situation but still, I don't think OSU wanted to go down that road again.

Shady? Sheesh.
You're getting into questions of contract language now. There would have be be a way for OSU to legally and RETROACTIVELY fine Tressel as opposed to fining him from a current paycheck. I doubt there's a coach in America that has in their contract language that allows such a thing to happen. They'd never agree to it when they're hired.
I know the time period for the fine because it was being PROPOSED as punishment when this first happened -- and assumed JT would still be coaching. It had him being suspended (first two, then five games) along with having players suspended as well. The fine was projected for the first part of the 2011 season...it was never retroactive.

Tressel gets paid in his retirement right? It's not like they cut ties.

As much as we dislike what Tress done to the football program, it's hard to overlook what he has contributed to tOSU outside of football. He has given alot of time and money to the University, and I'm sure that played a part in their decision to let him resign.Scarlet_Buckeye;824779 wrote:This amazes me too. And I think this will come back to bite OSU in the ass. I think the NCAA will look at this and definitely smell some shady business. How are we still paying the man?!

When you retire you are no longer an employee. Funds from a retirement account do NOT come from the Athletic Department. They are part of the PERS state retirement system; from monies paid by all state employees and the matching amounts made by the employer.

Although it took them awhile to get there, I really don't know what else OSU could be expected to do. I do not believe there will be a bowl ban and I'll be surprised if there's any more than a token scholarship reduction (doubt it will happen at all).

Makes sense.
Too bad media, like SI, don't adhere to the same standards for proof before they rake people through the muck. Used to be, editors required more than a "he said" before they'd publish the crap that was printed by SI and others covering this story. Sad to say, those days are long gone.

Are you retarded. No. Osu went 0-1 last year. They vacated wins. They dont count as losses. So yes the streak vs scUM still lives.
