Whether it was due to shitty performance or injury, who was/were the biggest disappointments for your sports teams?

As a Cleveland fan, I'd go with:

LeCharles Bentley going down with a knee injury, never to play again, on his first practice snap (he allegedly blew it out in a pickup basketball game prior) in training camp.

Bentley is up there.

I would add Judas James in the playoffs vs the Celtics
Jose Mesa
Travis Hafner in 2007 ALCS vs the Sox. We had Beckett on the ropes early and Pronk bailed him out

Willy Buford for his awful performance vs Kentucky last year
Troy Smith vs the Gators

Thats all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are many more

I phrased the question wrong. By "shitty performance", I meant overall body of work, not a one game meltdown. Juan Gonzalez second stint with the Tribe might also make my list since he didn't play although it thrust Sizemore into the Bigs.

As an Indians fan, I don't see how it couldn't be Cliff Lee for your playoff run in 07 (I think?)...you have normal Cliff Lee in those playoffs, you got a WS.

Was supposed to end his career with the home run record, many all star games, etc. all with Cincinnati. Still my favorite player of all time.

He was horrible in 2007. Didn't even make the postseason roster. I've wondered a few times 'what if" on that.

Cliff Lee. The only season he sucked is the year we had to roll with Stanford/Sowers. He gets sent to the minors and...I just cant even think about. We roll to a WS title with him pitching like he has every single year of his career other than 07.

But I still love the guy.

+1. Griffey Jr, by far.

Vernon Gholston for the Jets, at least recently, but I didn't like that pick from the beginning.

JaMarcus Russell for Oakland. Although I was 90% sure he was going to be a bust anyways. I desperately wanted them to take Joe Thomas or Calvin Johnson with the #1 pick and wait one more year to spend a first rounder on a QB.

Also, Derrius Heyward Bey being taken over Maclin and Crabtree. Just an awful pick and he's done next to nothing so far.

Griffey was pretty disappointing too. He was the best player at the time and well on his way to becoming the greatest player ever.

Although it happened well before I was born, I've always wondered what might have happened if Ernie Davis hadn't gotten sick and joined Jim Brown in the Brown's backfield. Quite possibly could have been the greatest backfield of all time. Bentley is a good one for the Browns and Jaret Wright for the Indians. Promising start to his career, didn't pan out as many had hoped.

Plaxico Burress. I can still remember that pass he dropped in the end zone against the Pats in an AFC Championship game. If he'd caught that, it would have cut their lead to 3 or 4 points (I think, within one TD at least) and they would have potentially had a shot at going to the Super Bowl that year. Instead, the Pats won comfortably.

I'd go into the Pirates, but let's face it...it would take forever to list all the names. To give just one, I'd say Stan Belinda for blowing the NL Championship series to Atlanta. I believe he did so twice, in both '91 and '92, but the one I vividly remember is the '92 one. I hate that fucker...

Oh God. I now will have a horrible day. I cant believe was actually turned down a trade, straight up, for Pedro because we wanted to hold onto this kid. Possibly the worst trade/non trade the Tribe has ever done.

Man, I really never thought about Cliff Lee, until some of you just brought that to my attention. SMH, that just pisses me off even more about the 2007 ALCS.

As for my players, I would go with 93% of the Browns' draft picks since 1999. I would also go with Grady Strikemore. He has been playing long enough to label him as a bust. I expected so much out of his career. I thought he could have been a potential MVP in the future. I never would have thought I would watch him bat below .230. At this rate he will have more strikeouts than his batting average.

I know this is only one series, but I will have to go with Jose Mesa in the 1997 world series. He went from being a Cy Young candidate in 1995, to gut punching the whole city of Cleveland in the 1997 World Series. I will never forgive him.

Lastly, I am surprised no one mentioned this yet, but LeBron James. I am sure our resident LeBron nuthugger(lotz) will sprint to his defense, but the fact of the matter is he promised to bring a Championship to Cleveland, and did not deliver. He fooled everyone in Cleveland by saying all the right things, but he was actually a douche bag the whole time. As each season goes by it becomes more apparent that LeBron is just a mental midget.

Barry Foster for the steelers. Believe 1690 yards in Cowhers first season I think, then really tanked after that. Bam Morris was a big, bruising back with good feet. Kinda like a Bettis, but drugs got him. Wonder if he is still in prison.

Someone mentioneed Plex. I dont dont if I had big expectations from him. He was disappointing to a point as he played like he was 5'6" and not his size. He never went up for the ball until he we went to the Giants.

I was a fan of Chad Scott, they paid him and Washington huge bucks as CB's but both flopped.

For a time I was disapointed in Damon Bailey for the Hoosiers until I really realized that A., No way he coulda lived up to expectations and B. he did finish with a pretty high scoring total in IU history. There was a player, Andre something, that I was a huge fan of when I was a kid who played dfor IU. He could jump outta the gym.

Disappointed in Bobby Knight for one thing, quiting in season with TT. Always a huge fan of him. My sunday mornings in the winter were watching he and chuck Marlow on the Bobby Knight show. Even watched Golf, My way with him and I hate golf so I was disappointed he left in season. I still wonder if there was health involved.

Out of those three names, you did remind me of O'Donnell and the Dallas Super Bowl, so...yeah...there's another one.
