I know...many didn't give credit for his last half of last year, his triple crown run and now he's getting warm again. Then again....only 7 people gave their opinions....throw out a top 10 with 5 HM's and I'll add your numbers into the results.

I had Carlos Gonzalez at #9 and laley had him as an HM......no one else had him listed.

Ok...I didn't see the initial thread but I'm gonna assume this is a current list with some previous success as a bonus

1. Albert Pujols (One of the best of all time)
2. Jose Bautista (Drops bombs, hitting .325+, and has a 65-47 BB to K ratio)
3. Adrian Gonzalez (Taking advantage of finally having a lineup around him)
4. Ryan Braun (Maybe the best player in the game. Look at the numbers...he could be the next 40-40 guy)
5. Miguel Cabrera (So solid and consistent....would have crazy numbers playing in say Cincy or Philly)
6. Josh Hamilton (Not sure anyone is better when healthy)
7. Carlos Gonzalez (The guy is a stud and he would be all over the place if he played in NYC or Boston)
8. Troy Tulowitzki (See #6 and #7)
9. Joey Votto (Slumping right now, but I'm so glad he's a Red)
10. Matt Kemp (A true fantasy stud....Could also go 40-40)

Honorable Mention:

Prince Fielder, Robinson Cano, Matt Holliday, Mark Teixeira, and its hard to argue with Granderson..


There are 40+ guys that I would take over Hunter Pence

WHEW...this year's updated...not as easy as thought on the laptop....Cargo still behind Pence.....Pujols jumped Cabrera and Braun jumped up some.

I think that he has a ways to go, but remember, he was drafted as a shortstop and came up as a 3rd baseman. I feel as though the big thing with left fielders is to just not make errors. Not everyone is going to play Carl Crawford type defense in left. Braun doesn't have a ton of range or a great arm, but he doesn't make big mistakes either.

Votto wasnt nearly as established though. Gonzalez has been raking for years, I penned him for MVP this year, but I didnt even think he would be THIS good. Votto hadnt done near as much as Gonzo had prior to last season. I still think its amazing no one listed him.

I also gotta wonder what SB has to do with hitting, since you mentioned 40-40 guys twice :D.

It has nothing to do with pure hitting. It just shows how well rounded these guys are. Stolen bases are a dying thing in MLB and when you think of how few 40-40 guys there have been, it shows how good those two are.

Reyes has been amazing and keeping my fantasy team afloat, but I just don't consider him elite as far as hitters go. Elite player? No doubt. Not sure on elite hitter. I consider elite to hit for substantial power.

^^^^^that's why we do these

I think they are elite if they are .300+ hitters with top power numbers or .320ish hitters with very good power numbers.....but anyone hitting above .340....depending on the number of at bats....I'm calling them elite.

Reyes hits .350 with 240 hits, 30 doubles and 28 triples......that will be quite ELITE in my book.....don't care if he hits another HR

I see what you are saying with Reyes. I know I will get killed for this, but I don't consider guys like Gwynn and Rose as among the upper elite. They are great hitters and were amazing at what they did but I guess I'm more of a slugging percentage guy than an average guy. Now Jose is putting up some extra base hits and his speed gives any hit he gets a chance to be an extra base hit, but I like the threat of power. I think my list shows that.

Crab hasn't made his way over here. His Reds' input made a big splash over at "Reds Zone" and he was voted into their premium posting area. So, he spends most of his time over there. I'm gonna text him and try to bring him to the madness that is the OC.

hitter and slugger are two different words......to each their interpretation

Rose ended only .303 and Gwynn was what .332? Pretty big difference. Gwynn is in my upper elite.....would have to go back into the 50's for him not to me....in my book anyways.

And that is why each person has their own list. I don't really want a pure slugger. I want the guy that hits .320 with 35+ homers, 110+ RBI's, and walks a lot. I would guess everyone like that. LOL.
