Yesterday morning it seemed like every Sports Talk Radio show was trying to make a big deal out of the fact Mexican supporters outnumbered USA fans by appx. 100:1 on Saturday night at an international match held in L.A. Also the Mexican fans booed the USA team when they were introduced.

My thought was...So F'n What? Soccer is a great sport for 8 yr. olds and this situation pretty much proves Americans are never gonna embrace this B.S. of a child's playground game.

I think the fact that in your own words every Sports Talk Radio show was talking about the game making a big deal out of it proves that your last statement is inaccurate.

I don't think anyone is surprised that the game in the Coliseum was a "home game" for Mexico... people knew that would be the case going into it.

Also, the continued play of the MLS also proves you otherwise. Soccer might never be #1... but America already has and continues to embrace soccer.

I pretty much expected this. It's not like the Gold Cup is high on most American's list for sporting events to follow.

My exact words were "...every Sports Talk Radio show was trying to make a big deal out of it" but very few folks were bothering to take the bait and call in. Nobody gave a rats ass.

Why do you care where people spend their entertainment dollars? Soccer gets good enough ratings, especially among Hispanics, so to say "we should just ignore it" isn't reasonable, and attendance figures are very good in certain markets - not all. Media outlets are going to continue to cover it because they don't want to risk missing out on a slice of the pie.

So then why did an ESPN poll that read "what are you most interested in watching this weekend?" show that the #1 response was the US-Mexico game? Over baseball and other more traditional american sports?

Yep, exactly. ESPN rigged the poll voting because they make so much money off soccer they wanted to really push it into the spotlight.

It was ESPN. The results werent all that close after I looked with over 130k voting.

...and just to get it out there, ESPN wasnt covering the game. So no, they were not pushing "their product".

haha, I wasnt trying to be a dick. I actually wondered the same thing when it was initially posted, so I went and looked. Granted, the major sports didnt have much going on, but the Confed game ran away with the voting.

The second part was because thats all we heard during the WC and the very strong ratings it brought to ABC/ESPN.

I saw that poll. I thought it was rather surprising, but there wasn't really much else going on.

Even though the US lost, I'm still glad it was an entertaining game. Full of goals and emotion......not to mention shitty defense. :(

Soccer really is a terrific sport IMO to play and watch. We just don't have a very entertaining league over here and it's hard to root for a european squad that you've most likely never watched live. When us americans have a team the ratings are up there with any other big major sports event
