Leake vs Hellickson (7-6, 3.09 ERA)

Reds might want to show up tonight because they face Price and Shields the next 2.

If the Reds lose this series they'll be down to 0.500 or less! Need to start methodically winning series. Since they swept the Dodgers, they've lost all 3 series, but fortunately none by being swept.

Man, thats tough. Have to face the top 3 pitchers for the Rays. 2 of which are in the early Cy Young debate!

Top righty (Shields)????
Top lefty (Price)????

They'll beat one of them....now if I had never heard of them and they top out at 89 with lille movement...I would never make such a bold statement

That's like Pittsburgh. Against Boston over the weekend, they beat Jon Lester. They beat Tim Wakefield (not great, but he's been around forever as a competent mid/low rotation guy). They lost to Andrew Miller, making his second appearance of the year and "boasting" a career 5.5ish ERA.

I've never understood that about this team, but it's very true. You'd have to think it's a concentration thing??

It's a self-motivation/focus thing.....that and their plate approaches are pretty good for pitchers with good stuff....but not for pitchers that can't rely on their stuff alone.

Hopefully, the Rays have crappy scouts and throw everyone so they can pull jerk it.

I think it comes down to this team being a power hitting team. Power hitters tend to have a little harder time with softer throwers and such. Even guys like BP many times think they are power hitters and try to jerk it too hard.

Greg Maddux said once that against the best power hitters he would go soft, softer, and softer.

A softer thrower doesnt wow a hitter. When a pitcher doesnt wow a hitter then they tend to have a little bit less focused I guess.

They are mostly doubles hitters trying to be HR hitters...again, back to the poor approaches. No team that I can ever remember has taken such wild wails at balls trying to hit 2nd deckers.....5 or 6 of them are Reggie Jackson swingers with Reggie Sanders power....if that.

This is an interesting lineup, can't blame Dusty this year for trying to find the right lineup.

BP gets away with bad baserunning! He was hung out to dry if Longoria just makes the play on him. The bobble got him too excited to make the play to get the lead runner. And it cost the Rays a run. 2-0 Reds. Big two out hit for Bruce.

Cueto is tomorrow vs Price. Not sure why some thought he was going tonight, it's Leake's turn.
