They said they didnt want to offend anybody ..I am by no means a right winger .. I have become pretty liberal over the years but I find this disturbing and basically outragious that a news media outlet would censor anything ..

If they don't want to air the pledge then don't air it but don't butcher and bastardize it so it's politically correct. Either use it or don't.

I think more people need to address this I read it in the paper yesterday and one of the sports writers was so outraged he is boycotting NBC ..I dont need any media outlet to slant there point of views in there ideology ..They need to report news and events and perhaps at the end of the newcast give an editorial .. But Censorship is not acceoptable

I am more right then left so you can guess where I come out on this issue. I'm not religious but I don't think this was cool what so ever.

Noticed right off the bat, and wasn't a fan.

100% correct. I don't know why they wanted to air it in the first place, what's the point? But to selectively edit that out all they did was piss off people. Is NBC run by clowns (based on the last few years of The Office, yes)?

I think you answered your own question. NBC deliberately did this because (a) they obviously do not agree with the inclusion of "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance and (b) they knew it would create controversy. They gain attention (albeit negative attention) and they force the debate.

should of just cut the entire pledge. however, i have no problem with it.

NBC made too big of a deal out of it by censoring it.

And it is now blowing up into too big of a deal that they did censor it. I mean really, who cares?

Well all of the people who believe in God apparently care HB.

Whether "under God" officially remains in the pledge or not, I actually don't care.

However, for the time being, it is in the pledge, and it is patriotically disrespectful to edit it to fit your own desire.

What if someone decided to say, "I pledge fanhood of the Flag of the United States of America ..."

It's disrespectful, as citizens of a country, to recite such a pledge while changing or omitting parts of it.

Nah. This guy knows God, but doesn't care whether or not he's mentioned in the national pledge. I don't see the point. Those two words don't hold any supernatural power.

Don't some athletic venues sing "America the Beautiful"? How weird would it be to omit the "God shed his grace on thee" part? NBC screwed the pooch on this one.

This. The line should have never been added to the Pledge, and should be removed. However, so long as it is in there, recite it properly.

i believe it would be more disrespectful to recite a pledge in which one does not subscribe to all parts of it. some people will not pledge their allegiance to "god", yet still would like to pledge their allegiance to the country.

that being said, i share the same sentiment you do with regards to it being a pointless addition (even for theists)

I would contend that if one does not hold to the official Pledge of Allegiance, then one should simply not say the Pledge of Allegiance. If I could not, in my gut, say that I truly pledged allegiance to America, but merely fanhood, then ought I change it, or ought I simply not say it?

As far as the involvement of the words "under God" in the Pledge, I don't believe the pledge is ever to God, but merely asserts his existence over the nation.

I'm A-OK with removing it, just as I am with removing "In God We Trust" from currency. I genuinely don't care one way or another, because in either case, one can recite or spend in good conscience merely recognizing that Deism played a part in the lives of many who formed our country. The recognition of a Deity is part of our history, whether or not it is agreed upon by us today. All that to say that I'm okay if it stays, because it recognizes an element of American history, but I'm also okay if it is removed, because it serves no further purpose, nationally.

The job of the media is to report the news, network entertainment and provide truthful, honest and facts to the public. If NBC is censoring The Pledge of Allegance how can the public take anything NBC has to offer as professional reporting. (National Barack Communication)

As O-trap said you are not pledging your allegiance to God.

...I've never been one to do this but I actually sent an e-mail to NBC to voice my issue with them censoring the "Pledge of Allegiance." I explained my reasons as well as my families for no longer going to support those sponsors that they rely on for their revenue dollars. I cc'd the local NBC affiliate's station manager & told him the same of his local advertisers. I know it doesn't really amount to anything of substance, but I guess you just have to vent every once and a while to let others know when you feel strongly about something like this.

It was a stupid move by NBC

I'm more left than right and don't care about religion, but something like that is stupid.

You either:

A -- don't have it broadcast at all. Really, when it comes to sporting events, how often on TV do they play the National Anthem, do the Pledge, etc? Big events, ones on certain holidays, but not every time out.

B -- broadcast it unedited.

All this does is piss people off.
