A mudbath. Only points were a punt snap over the punter's head and out of the endzone.
Toronto ,Mingo, and JU, all big games
It must have been fun back then when so many local teams were still around .. Ofcourse our Big Red teams were getting trampled on a good bit

Stanton was a "great" place to watch a game. I saw a game there vs. Dillonvale many, many years ago. Stanton seemed to have very good teams back then. The Dillonvale game was a blowout.

I have a few pictures of Stanton in my website. And.........looking for more.

As an "old-timer", I miss all the small schools. JU, Stanton, Springfield, Adena, Dillonvale, Hopedale and the rest. I even remember Warren Consolidated.

I've started a website and desperately looking for material. Any help, (pictures, articles, season scores, anything), would be greatly appreciated. I would like to add more for some of the other schools as well.

Anyone who can help, I would greatly, greatly appreciate anything you can forward.
Website: stantonlocal.com

Thanks!

Wow what a old looking but historic stadium. Thanks for the pics... Is that were Edison now plays? Wish we had some old pics of Campbell Memorials John Knapick stadium before the renovation.. There was some wars raged there with some of the old Jefferson county schools there also.. Its still on the same sight and all and it still has that old time feel but not the same. Don't get me wrong i love the new stadium but the old girl had some swagger that can never be replaced.

I agree. I haven't been to the new stadium. I'm sure it's nice from photos I've seen on various websites.

But, I do miss many of the old "classic" Campbell-Struthers games played at Knapick. Overflow crowds. Throw out the record books because anything could and would happen.

You'll love this. Many, many years ago I drove a friend of mine to Knapick for another week 10 classic. We drove from Beaver, Pa. We get to the stadium early and get "great" seats. Struthers was 7-0-2 at the time and Campbell was having a rough year. I'm telling my friend about the rivalry and about what a great game it should be regardless of the records. As game time approaches, I'm wondering where are the Struthers fans are? I didn't notice any of the regulars around. I'm getting confused. I tell my friend that I want to go to the other side for a sec. When I go there, I find that they had changed where the vistors sit. The Struthers fans were sitting on the side across from the school, not next to the school. By that time, I could barely find two lousy seats somewhere on the visitor's side. I had no idea they had changed the seating arrangements. My friend thought I was crazy. We get there early thinking we had great seats and then end up with the lousiest seats ever. That's what I get for missing some seasons due to the service.

I thought you might enjoy this one.

Edison plays behind the Edison High School building in Richmond, formerly Jefferson Union.

They probably couldexpand on that stadium because the home side has a very larg hill .. just put up some away bleachers .... It would be a great place for JU ie Edison to play

I'm surprised these consolidated districts don't 'rotate' their home games amongst the stadiums in their district. I found out that western states that have massive consolidations tend to do that. This way not every home game for fans is miles away. Though those tend to be the smallest 11-man or 6/8/9-man teams where the stadium is non-existent and a flat patch of grass with some goal posts is all you need to have a 'field'.

This thread has taken me back in time a little. I remember Stanton being around when I was young.

I know JU (and maybe Springfield?) became Edison South, but who consolidated with Stanton to make Edison North?

Weren't they the Red Raiders? What were their colors? I seem to recall red and black.

Sorry for butting in, but I really enjoyed all of the football teams that used to be around.
