He probably wasn't going to get the runner, he needed to get off the bag and make the catch.

And BP gets the error because the throw was offline.

Votto stretches in anticipation of where the throw should be....he needed to stretch towards home plate on that throw....he could've held the bag and caught the ball.

He is also the only player I've seen in MLB history that throws off the wrong foot on occasion.

Unless Jay's left foot bounced off the dirt JUST before the plate, he was safe.
