IRRC, the rights to the company and its products were purchased by the group that held the franchises in the Tri-State (OH/WV/KY) - they're headquartered in Ironton. That might explain the concentration down there.
It doesn't take too much to compete with Arby's - there's a small locally-owned roast beef house in Washington Court House in a terrible location that easily outperforms them.

Always eat at the Rax in Joliet, IL when visiting family. That one still has the salad/taco bar.

Just had RAX a couple weeks ago. Still the best fountain Root Beer anywhere.

adog....you still can buddy! I'm like 3 minutes from that place.
We've only eaten there about 3 or 4 times. Prices are just about the same as Arby's....but food is not as good. Takes 10 minutes to get to the south side and Arby's.....we make the drive.

SHit...after 5 minutes around my wife you not only woulda been popping pills and drinking you would also be putting a gun to your head!!
I go to arbys once a month or so...yeah thye have some expensive stuff but you can get buy with a decent bill...but at that rax...man it was expensi.e
