Of course JT is to blame also, but a lot of this should be on the AD and compliance department. Tressel was the football COACH.
How is the AD and compliance to blame? They have a system in place to educate the players on what NOT to do. They are not there to follow players around and babysit them. Smith is not there to do either one as well. His FAULT, is that he trusted Tressel to run the program. And it was Tressels program to run. He was the head coach of the football program. Smith has to oversee the largest athletic venue in the entire country. The coaches are hired to oversee each one of those. Smith cannnot nor should he micro manage what goes on. There is not enough time in the day to do so. My personal opinion is that Smith is and was not involved in this mess. Did he handle things the way they should have been handled? Who knows. I am sure he regrets the news conference. But who the hell knows how to handle a situation like that? Its not like it happens every day. They could have easily done their due process, and what they said was what they found. It would NOT be HARD for individual players to do what they did and get away with it. They almost did..and I have NO doubt MANY, MANY around the country do get away with it every day. OSU got caught. Most others do not. It is what it is. The but players are the ones who CHOSE to do what they did. This after being told numerous times what NOT to do. THere is A LOT of blame to go around. But its starts and ends with the players making POOR choices. No one is in this situation had they done the right thing in the first place.
