Seriously. We had been living in Florida for awhile, and then my dad was transferred up to Ohio. My parents needed to save up money to buy a house, so we were looking for a place to live. My dad's company had bought an old hospital years before and was working out of the 1st floor, but there were a bunch of empty rooms on the higher level. So we moved in and took over one of the wings of the old hospital. I think we lived there a year or two while my parents tried to find a different place for us to live.
Looking back, it was a pretty cool experience, especially playing hide-and-go-seek in the old operating room, or running around in the morgue at night with the lights turned off. Scary, but fun for a kid. We were pretty poor, but I don't think I realized at the time how poor we were.
Now, 20 years later, my dad's business (of which he is now a co-owner) does really well, so it's strange to think back about how things were back then. Looking back on old pictures and thinking about how things could've been, it gives me a real sense of "but for the grace God" perspective.

No, it was the old Wellington hospital on Dickson Street, just to the east of the football stadium.

That is awful. I'm glad that you weren't able to see his whole body.

I have gotten into 2 yellow jacket nests -- got stung over 20 times each time.
I was in a situation where I was the only one present when a 19-year-old had a stroke, his parents, family, and friends think I am a hero for saving their son. He just finished 3 6-minute miles when he had his stroke; I almost believe he had the stroke during the last mile. He had no medical problems up until he had the stroke. I think about him everyday. I wish he would have a full recovery, it'd be great if I could find a good, cheap way to get him back to the US so he could have good, cheap physical therapy. If anyone knows anyone that would be willing to help...I'd love the help. I'll pay for the flight over, if I could just get him recovered, things would be amazing.
I met Brian Grant at the Columbus airport one time, it was right after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. I cried when I was talking to him. My granddad died of Parkinson's a year or two before I met Brian. I just wanted to encourage him to beat that crummy disease.

I had this experience as well. Parents were very poor. My dad got a job out in California after college, so they packed up everything they had in their old Rabbit and drove out. I was born out there. We lived in this tiny, nasty shack of a house. My mom sold makeup door-to-door, and my dad was a pastor making very little. I never realized how hard it was growing up, because they always did things to make sure that my brother and I had what we needed.
Now, my dad is the pastor of a church down in central Ohio, and my mom is a branch manager with Chase, and they make good money. Just weird to think how different it used to be.

I run a fairly successful showpig operation. For those that have no clue what I am talking about, these are typically animals that are shown by kids in 4-H. I've been fortunate enough to raise champions at all levels of competition.

I'll bet no one knew the toothbrush was invented in Kentucky.....if it was invented anywhere else it would have been called the teethbrush.
