Maybe they keep Shaw and run the triangle? It will be interesting to see what they plan on doing

Add D Howard to a Mike Brown defense and they might be on to something

I'm pretty sure Shaw was going to be gone if he didn't get the job. I mean if I was him I wouldn't stick around.

I wonder how this plays out if kobe doesn't believe in him at some point in the season. I can see this hiring causing more bad than good if it at all gets rocky.

LOL at all the negativity on Mike Brown. I didn't see the Heat win 60 plus games this year. Good luck Brownie. You are a really good coach and worth every penny of your 4.5 mil per year pay.

Yeah...agreed. he def needs some help on the offensive side, but he managed lebrons giant ego, so this will be a vacation for him.

Did he really though? Bron did whatever the hell he wanted to, whenever he wanted to. I know a lot of that had to do with Gilbert too, but still.

I really think this is a bad decision by Mitch and the gang.

I like the guy as a person, just wish he had a better understanding of the offense

Something I read on RCF. Pretty much sums up my thoughts:
His inability to be flexible or imaginitive to use LeBron on Rondo was a back-breaker against Boston last year. In his limited possesions guarding Rondo, our field-goal defensive % went way up. But he never wanted to consistently do it, but rather watch Rondo dismantle us possesion after possesion. The argument about putting Parker on Pierce should be a non-starter because we ultimately just watched Rondo destroy us. Why not try something other than Williams and Parker?

And the Orlando series when Rashard Lewis and Hedo just destroyed us was equally bad. He never made adjustments to give us a chance.

I think the biggest argument to be made was LeBron didn't want to guard Rondo and he didn't want to play PF against Orlando, but ultimately a coach should demand that out of his players.

But he is a great guy and I wish him success wherever he goes.

Although, I would LOVE to see Mike take Kobe and Co. to the Finals and BEAT the Heat. THAT would be awesome.

I like this hire, because I dont like the Lakers ;). But if I were a Lakers fan, i wouldnt be happy at all. Why do they need a defensive minded coach? The Lakers already have I'd say a top 5 defense in the league. All this talk on ESPN.."Mike Brown is the 5th winningest coach of all time" "Mike Brown took the Cavs to the finals in 07"...Mike Brown didnt do any of that. The best player in the game did.

Well, once again Cleveland fans (and now LA fans) will be glad to know LeBron has given his seal of approval.

What I found more interesting is that Ilgauskas validated what a lot of us have said about Cavs fans. Is he now on your shit list too:
“Idiots pinned it on [James],” Ilgauskas said. “But he didn’t do any hiring or firing. That came from higher-ups. You can only blame so much on that kid. Eventually, someone else has to take some accountability.”
For those not on the Mike Brown train, saw this on facebook:

"The new thing in the NBA is to pull out all the stops to keep LeBron from winning rings. The Lakers just hired Mike Brown. They figured he was an expert in this department."

Nobody controlled him. As you said, he did whatever the Hell he wanted to. He tuned out Brown and had his own agenda. Part of this WAS Gilbert's fault for enabling/coddling him and his entourage.

If Lebron had too much freedom it was because of Gilbert and Ferry. I always thought Brown did a good job. He wasn't great at X's and O's but he was great at getting his guys motivated to play every night. I also liked how he never tried to make himself bigger than what he was.

Dont think Gilbert/Ferry had too much control inside the huddle calling plays or picking who gets to guard who.

I didn't say they did. In freedom I meant off the court regarding Lebron.

Certainly never a bad job as coach of the Lakers. Players will always want to play for them.

Apparently Kobe isn't very happy at the hire though. I don't think this ends well at all for LA.

Kobe on board with hiring of Brown, has great respect for him, according to sources. Lakers will announce Brown hiring this afternoon.

LATimes reports some say Kobe confused by MBrown hiring. I've been told he respects Brown, but I haven't talked to Kobe directly. We'll see.

"Bryant and his teammates apparently weren't consulted during the coaching search, and Bryant declined to comment on Brown's hiring Wednesday when reached by the Los Angeles Times. Bryant publicly supported Shaw, his former Lakers teammate, but the two-time NBA finals MVP also said the Lakers should find a coach who believes in hard-nosed defense.
"I don't believe in building a championship team on offense," Bryant said two weeks ago after his exit interview with Lakers brass. "It has to be built on defense and rebounding, period."

Sure Kobe endorsed Shaw but Kobe also knows what wins Championships.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Mike Brown was on Staff and was the defensive guru for the 2003 Spurs Championship.
