Probably because he's doing the right thing...and he was due to retire, anyway.

Now, do you want to discuss all the other pending ethics investigations involving the House and Senate, like Charles Rangel, Maxine Waters, Eric Massa, Jesse Jackson Jr.? All of them Democrats who muddied the waters even after Nancy Pelosi assured us all that she was going to "drain the swamp" when she first got control of the House.

Seems to me the swamp got a lot muddier under her "leadership".

I guess voters must have agreed last November. :)

So you think Ensign is doing the right thing writer?

The right thing would've been to resign as soon as this happened/came to light

You mean like all those Democrats who have their tits in a ringer right now?

He's resigning. YOU may not like the timing, but he's leaving. So yes, he's doing the right thing.

This would be a great topic. If anybody on this forum actually gave a damn about Ensign.

I'm personally more concerned about cleaning up my own party. I cannot point fingers at ANY republican when there's more than enough current democrats who need to inducted into the Hall of Shame.

I mean... let's be realistic.

Which is still more than some Democrats do when they get in trouble. Why is Rangel still a Democrat in good standing again?

Not trying to be accusationary or anything here but I'm curious as to why you have any attachment whatsoever to a political party (in your case you say it's the Dems). I think it makes far more sense to have an attachment to whatever viewpoints you hold and to support those who currently share them without giving a shit what party they're from. Party's change their political viewpoints all the time and ebb and flow between extremes within their own ideologies. So you seemingly caring so much about the Democrats seems strange to me. If you disagree with them they who gives a shit about them? Why be concerned with "cleaning it up"? If you feel the Reps. are more in line with your views just accept that and only go back to the Dems when/if they align with your opinions more than the Reps/whoever else.

But the idea that you cannot critisize other parties/members because you disagree with things in your own also seems silly to me. If something is stupid or bad in another party and you notice it it's perfectly fine to point it out or get angry even if there's shit you don't like about your own party.

To the OP: This thread would have been much better if you just would have made it about how shitty Ensign is instead of trying to link it to a broader trend of Republicans. Same goes for threads about shitty Democrats.

He's a crook like so many others in Washington. Everybody should be upset with these people. They have no regard for the country or it's citizens. The list of crooks is long under both party banners.

I glanced through the report. Needless to say, he used misused the office to sleep around and force favors out of the mistress. The family of the mistress is ruined now, and the report is a step above the other ethics violations. This was some shady and dirty stuff.
I'd also say the other cases that Writer points to were in the House, this was Senate, where it was a true bipartisan flogging. He had it coming and earned every bit of it.
Also, Writer, don't be quick to point out the D's. Sure, they are corrupt and ethics violations occur on both sides, but to quickly blame the other side for their actions (in the House not the Senate) is a way off.

Ensign had it coming.

Who defended Ensign? I sure didn't. I think ANYONE who violates ethics at that level should be expelled immediately. So I ask again: why is Charlie Rangel still there? How about Maxine Waters and a few others who have twisted things in their favor over the past several years?

Republican, Democrat or Independent -- I want them GONE. They make far too much money and far too much power to be allowed any second chances when they pull stunts like this.

I want them all gone too. Why are they still there, I'm not sure. But, those cases are all on the House side. This was the Senate, where more rational adults dominate and party control is not as dominate. That is probably one reason.

Pants,

:: sigh :: I've answered the jist of your question before, directly to you and to others.

In short: I believe that the D party CAN get its head out of its ass. But if you're gonna get it to do that, you have to be critical of it and to it in the first place.

But the D party will NEVER, EVER clean itself up as long as people are complacent to let it degenerate while pointing the fingers at other people. Anything else is just petulant fodder for people to become and stay comfortable to what they have grown accustomed to.

I think that's simple enough of an explanation without going on a diatribe yet again.

Try taking reading comprehension courses and get back to me later.

What part of I THINK ANYONE WHO VIOLATES ETHICS AT THAT LEVEL SHOULD BE EXPELLED IMMEDIATELY -- do you not understand?

That's why I'm disgusted that Rangel and others in the House have been allowed to keep their seats and their good standing, even though it's obvious they don't give a damn about ethics.

I think the point Knight is making is that, instead of simply condemning Ensign and what he had done, you immediately point the finger at Democrats. If you want to howl at that particular moon, go for it, but it does appear you are shifting the blame in this particular instance.

I'm smiling because the list of corrupt, lying, cheating hypocrites of the R party is LONG and alot are VERY recent. The Abramoff scandal and the sex antics of the "holier than thou" crowd have pretty much done in the party with many voters, especially the independents. The usual foaming at the mouth Rs will always try to change the subject or accuse Ds when the subject is corrupt Rs. It never fails. Their policies are also laughing stock for most people (Medicare "vouchers", lol, eliminating SS, eliminating unions, etc). Always a comic relief.

I'm smiling at your lack of political acumen...in particular dealing with the current allegiance of the independents. You might want to read up a tad on that.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

It's not that Democrats are such upstanding, honorable folks. It's that Republicans like to portray themselves as the party of "family values". What they don't tell you is that the "family" is the Borgias.

Har-dee-har!

I'm not totally pro life in my views, but there is an argument to be made about your party NOT being very family friendly when you advocate the killing of babies in the womb at the whim of the mother...and being openly welcoming to women who game the system, don't get married and pop out children like they are a pan of Jiffy Pop...or talking a great game when it comes to racism but being the party that created a system of welfare that has all but destroyed black families in favor of single parent homes, most of which are wracked by the very poverty the party espouses to stop.

That's just for starters.

So smack Republicans who talk the family values schtick but are human beings and have their failings like all of us do...twisting words to suit political ends is a specialty of liberals and has been since Alinsky came on the scene.

With the backing of a media and popular culture machine that never questions anything they do -- especially now -- it pretty much allows liberals to set the tone and create the meme, even when it's a total figment of imagination; and that happens as often as not.
