The Reds go for the sweep, which would be great with the off day upcoming and the Cardinals' series upcoming at GABP. Volquez has been good the last few times out, but they really need more innings from him. The 100 pitch, 5 inning starts are not a good pattern.

Wandy Rodriguez has always been tough on the Reds, and in his last 4 starts he has gone 29 innings with a 2-1 record and has allowed only 7 earned runs. He has a 4.07 career ERA against the Reds and he's been historically good at Minute Maid Park with a career 3.43 ERA.

I always pronounced it Wandy as in Randy with a W but Kelch was saying it was Wandy like a Wand..........

always thought Randy with a W was alawys a funny name.

Hope the reds sweeeeeeeeep. Kinda got lacksidasical late with bases loaded twice with one out and only scored one run.

Sweep those stros

It's definitely like the Wand with a Y.

Makes sense, even struggling, that Gomes is in the lineup against this lefty. I'd like to see Heisey but you can't sit Stubbs or Bruce, they are too good.

So why is Gomes hitting 5th while he's still hitting under .200 and Bruce is hitting right before Janish? Gomes is probably playing because Baker would say it's "matchups." I guess that means even if a guy is in a major slump you continue to play him because he can hit left handed pitching.

I really hope Dusty didn't just look at Gomes' 2 hits last night and thought that was good enough to get a start tonight.

I really don't understand hitting Bruce 7th, but whatever

No problems with today's lineup. Bruce is a career .227 hitter against lefties. He's hitting .182 against them this year with 7 K's in 22 AB's.

Jay Bruce career vs Wandy Rodriguez, is 1 for 20 with 12 K's...

In fact, Jay Bruce has 20 career at-bats against Wandy Rodriguez. Of every pitcher Bruce has ever faced (hundreds of them), he's faced only Roy Oswalt (29 at-bats) and Cris Carpenter (20 at-bats) as many or more times than Wandy. You can argue that the absolute worst match-up for Jay Bruce against an opposing pitcher is Wandy Rodriguez. Maybe we have to give Dusty some credit today. Then again, watch Bruce go like 3 for 5 with a HR and 3 RBI's...

I still don't really understand why Heisey hasn't got much PT in a while...

Whoops, I thought he was through 2 on that count, it was only 1.

So disregard that. He's looking at another 5 inning outing.

Four walks through 1.1 innings. That could be better.

I can't agree with that.

EV a little shaky in the first on control, especially the fastball, but he gets thru it with no runs and 20 pitches. finally got a strike on Bourn on the 4th fastball he threw. Then a four pitch walk to Towles, all on fastballs. Then he finally gets a fastball strike(2-2 foul) on Pence, after his two balls come on fastballs.

In the 2nd inning, he's walked three and the only two outs were a great play on a line drive by BP and the pitcher popping up on the first pitch!

Votto and Janish complete a tough play to end the 2nd with the damage held to 2 runs.

I'll take only being down 2 after that crap. We cant fall behind Wandy too much more though.

Would have been good if Renteria could have gotten that run in with two outs, but no cigar.
