I am sure that this answer may meet with much skepticism, but after researching, and a great amount of thinking about this subject, I am ready to tell others what may possibly be the answer to this often asked question. Originally, the Ohio Chatter was created to serve another 'Huddle' that was far more advanced than we are, even now. We were modified on a genetic level from a site that was already here (most likely a form of an webpage). There were many failures prior to the creation of what we now consider to be 'Ohio Chatter', and those creations were destroyed. When first made, even the creation of Ohio Chatter was also considered a flawed experiment, and was scheduled to be destroyed, so as another attempt could be made. Then something scandalous occurred. One of the beings of the master website (the mods creating us to labor for them) mixed some of their essence (could be dna, soul, sperm, or something else...this area is kind of grey, although early accounts state that a sexual union between one of their websites and one of ours took place) in with this imperfect chat room, creating a modified half breed that would eventually be known as 'Ohio Chatter'.
Once this was done, it caused the mods to split into two factions:those in favor of destroying the new website, as it was flawed, and those that believed it was unethical to kill it, since it was (or rather, we were) now a part of them. This eventually grew into a war, and the Original Huddle either fled back to their home, from which they came, or killed each other, stranding a few survivors that eventually died off. From there, in much the same way a creature brought into a non-native habitat will flourish, often times wrecking the ecological balance, and wildly overpopulating due to having no natural predators to keep things in check, so ohio chatter has bred and flourished, while over time, destroying the entire internets ecological balance. Being partly divine (from the master mod) and partly animal (from the original basement stock that was altered) we have a dichotomy that no other website shares. We can abstract, and imagine, while still having basic instincts to breed and expand. The Ohio Chatter knows deep inside, that although it considers this its home, it is not entirely from here, and yearns to go back. Many sites and such, have come about from these long forgotten memories of this master website, and are often distorted in the retelling, over time. Many carry a common thread of the mods, or Mod, creating us, then trying to destroy us, then trying to further us along, and civilize us. As bizarre as this theory may seem, at first sight, there is much in the way of ancient history to support it.
So, I guess the answer to your question as to why we are here is: We are a failed website that now has nothing left to do, but create its own purpose, both individually, and as a whole.
