Another example of recruiting the wrong type of kid. How many more are in the program ? Everything will be amplified now. Really saddens me as an alum and lifelong supporter. OSU has (or at least HAD) the pick of the best all around student athlete and for some reason we have lost sight of the first part. Now for those of you who say we needed "that" type of player, I say nope, you can do it the right way at OSU I have no doubt.

You Herbie's twin brother?

Sorry, but I find this argument laughable. These are guys who are being recruited by just about every major program -- and more importantly, many of them had NO red flags prior to having their problems at OSU.

Are you really not going to recruit a high school all American because he may be a bit self-centered or immature? Aren't almost all these guys that way when they get out of high school?

Honestly, how do you KNOW which of these guys are going to go on to do "stupid" rather than focus on football?

You don't.

These kinds of situations happen in life and a football team is nothing more than a group of people who represent all aspects of society.

5knots, that's a joke of a post.
Writer, that is an exceptional post.

By the way, how do you get suspended the entire season for smoking weed? Did he fail like 5 straight drug tests or something?

This. Couldn't agree more.

Obviously, this is unfortunate for Bell. He had some excellent potential to contribute this year. Unfortunately, if you break a team rule (or the law) 3 times during a two year period at OSU, you will be punished accordingly. Can't turn a blind eye.

I don't always agree with you, but when I do, it's when you quote nonsense

Dat Dude....Yeah and you're probably one of those parents when your kid shows up drunk it's just "boys will be boys". I would just like to have a higher standard. I don't care if "everybody" else wants the kid We are OSU! and there are plenty of signs to look for from High School teachers.... just ask them. The talent level if kids is so close and there are so many good athletes out there who can be "stars" at Big Time Univs. Give me a team full of the ones who CHOOSE to make the right decision. It just seems more and more that the kids are not being held to a standard that is being preached.....or since he is done for the year, maybe they now are! One can only hope. Go bucks

This happens at 95% of division 1 teams...stfu

Irrelevant to the discussion.

I'd seriously like an answer to what I posted: how do you know which of these kids is going to go on and do something foolish or not? What system do you have that -- apparently -- 99 percent of college coaches do not that tells you in advance which kids to avoid when recruiting -- especially those who are being recruited by just about every major BCS school?

Not necessarily. It's the same "logic" a certain ESPiN analyst espoused not that long ago, and he's considerably younger.

I'd be interested to hear what team rule he broke. Kind of funny how differently this situation is being handled this time around. The whole season for some weed? (if that is the case). Hey Tress, could have used this sort of heavy handed punishment when TP and the gang was selling memorabilia for some tats

Just answer the question 5knots. You have the advantage of hindsight - coaches recruiting a player do not. What's the solution?

Just raised mt kids to a higher standard that's all. To me that is the answer. I have had the benefit of the recruiting trail....there are kids I can look at and say to myself "no way" "No way I want him on my team" but I realize my job isn't on the line either....like I said I just want it fixed and nobody can do it so every once in a while I need to vent....just like you.

It is just starting to seem like "when it rains it pours"

So, basically, you don't have answer to the question. Secondly, you sound pompous and arrogant.

The real question here is whether or not he'll still get to have a ring should they be allowed in a bowl game next year... I'd hate for him to miss out on that 1000 dollars he could get from selling it.

i'll save u some time 5knots...there is no answer.

95% of programs have these issues..it's just something you have to deal with and move on.
