LOL--I didn't think you'd get it....anyway, even though I still subscribe to the theory that JT did indeed tell someone higher up at OSU of these emails, I do think he exercised very poor judgement in the handling of this information, and he that did indeed lie when asked if he knew of any possible violations when asked about it in December. There really isn't an ending to this that would surprise me at all--and it ain't gonna' be good.

Well the guys on buckeyeplanet are saying that there is a divide building in the OSU administration, kind of similar to things enginmaxx was saying earlier. So i don't expect JT to be around past 2011 and I also expect him to resign before he were to get fired.

SI thinks Tressel's time is running out and talk about the NCAA possibly giving a show cause penalty to Tressel. As others have said here I'm not sure what that means to a coach who has a current contract.

Sorry, at the college level, dealing with 18-22 yr olds, you most certainly are a baby sitter. I realize you can't stand watch over 100 players 24/7. But when your franchise player/players are running around flaunting shit here and there, you better start looking into it, or assign someone to do just that.

HAHAHAHA, ok, you are the most passive aggressive troll on this website. It's split 50/50, people want to blame Pryor because they think Tressel is a saint, others can see through that and realize that this is Tressel's own doing along with the past he has had.

IMHO there is a HUGE difference between punching a player and not telling when you know players are selling stuff that belongs to them. The only bigger coach than Tressel in Ohio State history was Woody Hayes, winner of AP national championships in 1954 and '68 and the all-time leader in Big Ten conference victories with 152. Yet when Hayes shamed the university by punching Clemson's Charlie Bauman in the 1978 Gator Bowl, igniting a bench-clearing brawl, the school fired him the next day.
If Ohio State could fire its greatest football icon, it can fire Tressel.
Of course, Hayes' assault of Bauman was nationally televised; there was no mistaking or misunderstanding what occurred. It could not be taken out of context, glossed over or ascribed to any plot to take down the coach. A legend punched his way out of a job on live TV, leaving his employer no choice as far as how to act.
I hope if OSU fires Tress, they don't do it because the media told them they should.

I do agree here. Pryor screwed up and has to take responsibility for his mistakes. Tressel is a big boy and he made a choice to not come forward when he found out. He'll have to live with whatever happens and has nobody to blame but himself.
Although I think the NCAA is a joke and they only care about making money.

Sorry, but Forde comes off like a pompous windbag there. The violations in question here, while serious, do not (IMO) approach the same level as recruiting violations and other stuff. His players sold some of their own stuff, and he willingly/negligently didn't report it to people he should have. He absolutely should be punished, but to act like the university has no choice but to fire the guy, considering all the other things he's done for the school, is silly.
Now maybe OSU does ultimately go that way, but to me this isn't a clear-cut "they have to fire him" situation.

The violations have only to do with lying to the NCAA and playing ineligible players. They are absolutely as serious as recruiting violations.

Relatively speaking, yes. And I am not downplaying this at all. But when you look at the crime...this thing is completely blown up more than it should have ever been. Again, we are talking about players who sold what they rightfully owned. Yes, it is against the rules, they should not have done it. The penalty for this, is extremely excessive IMO. And it didn't give OSU any kind of competative edge on the field compared to do what would happen with a recruiting violation..such as paying players to come to your school.

Here we go again. Herbstreit says things about OSU he never says about anyone else. Did he chastise USC for recruiting Bush after the fact? Does he say any SEC schools should have also not recruited Pryor or MC? Of course not. He's a hypocrite and and a jackass.
In fact, he's always lambasting the Big 10 for not going after the high profile, have every talent you need, kind of guys the SEC has, and says it's one reason the conference is inferior. You can't have it both ways -- unless you're a bitchy little analyst with gold highlights and a faux tan.

cbf, I don't disagree with that. The violations of the players were small and stupid like you said, but they were violations. Those have been dealt with. The bigger issue is Tressel's lying and playing players he knew should be ineligible. The severity of the players' violations has nothing to do with what Tressel will face. Like someone said (LJ maybe??) all of this could have been over with already if Tressel had practiced what he preaches and done his job. Whether he did it to protect his players or to keep his players on the field for a run at a National Championship, he still knowingly broke NCAA rules and made it worse by lying about it.

This is what I have been saying for a while now. He is not worth the off the field issues he has brought to the school for 7 or 8 games this year. Most people feel that a national championship is out of the question so I think it is time to move on from him.

I'm not budging off that sentiment. You can link all the wikipedia articles you want, but if you get in a hot tub time machine and go back to 2008 or whenever these guys sold their stuff and prevented that action from taking place...it completely changes the course of history because the decision that Tressel makes (which I agree is his fault) never takes place.
good players are replaceable, a coach like tressel is not
