There's no doubt he can hit .300, that's not the point. When the bottom of the order is hitting well but fairly slow, and there isn't Thome/Ramirez in the 3/4 hole you need a guy with some pop at the top both to drive in runs and get in scoring position. Brantley is a singles hitter which is why he doesn't score many runs or drive in many. It would be different if he could steal and he should get there in a year or two. Even in your 3 month sample, you still don't take that over the several years Grady put up 120 runs and 80 rbi. If he plays himself out of the spot that's fine, but he has to get a shot to keep his job.
