My wife and I eat out on regular occasion so ordering from a menu is not IMO a difficult task.
My wife (I love her because I fine this humors to watch) she just can make up her mind. I think it has to do with not having the ability to try it on first.

She pick out what she want from the menu, then ask three to four question, changes her mind orders something else but never ask anything about the food she just ordered. I order then she quickly orders what I just ordered. Just to piss her off I will order first sometimes and order something I know she will not try. That put her in the situation of making a menu decision, that is 5 minutes of pure amusement to me.

Because our family eats out a lot our kids also have learned to order food from quality restaurants. All but one..
She can never just order what on the menu, there is always a change, alteration or substitution involved. I can hear her now, “I want this but can I get this instead or can I have this and not that with it, can you substitute this for a extra salad... and it goes on and on”
The bottom line is, I will end up paying more for her meal and she gets less or it not right so she doesn’t eat it. (I pick up the slack)

Are you like those two examples above or do you know some like that when it come to ordering?
Does it frustrate you or do you find humor?

Any good stories or examples …

I feel your pain brother, my wife is the same way. Even if we stop into McDonald's for a quick snack it takes her like five minutes to order. I guess I should take your approach and find it amusing, rather than getting frustrated like I do.

Man, you are lucky just to have the family make a decision on where the hell to go. At My house, this usually involves a 15 to 20 minute debate.

Rule 1 is a given.

And I always end up doing the dishes when I cook at home, no idea why the "person that cooks doesn't have to do dishes" rule was never instituted in our house.

I have a couple buddies like this. They freeze when the server shows up, and then panic and order something that don't really want. It's hilarious!

It doesn't take me long to decide what I want but I do substitute. I never get the featured veggie with my entree...I prefer 2 potatoes (usually baked and mashed). I usually don't like what they're serving and I just prefer my starchy sides.

I occasionally order something "without" one of its parts, but I almost never try to substitute.

And I ALWAYS know what I want when I go places, because I pretty much get the same thing every time.

I thought thsi was gonna be about places that get rediculous and charge alot extra if you substitute anything.

For instance I didnt want to get fries at a local place. Chickent sandwich came with fries and cole slaw. I just asked if I could ahve two slaws instead of fries. Sure.

For an extra dollar becuase of the substituting!

My wife does it often, but my sister-in-law does it every meal out. I really feel bad for her future husband. The funny thing her part-time job is as a server.

Oh well. I tip well and I don't complain about the small things. I'm not going to take something I don't like just because it comes with the meal.

I just hate when the woman orders a salad. She orders it minus everything even if its a chef salad or something. I'm just like ask for lettuce and ranch and make it much easier on everyone else.

I'm pretty much the same way. Most of the time I/We will look at the menu online prior to going there, so we don't come in guessing.

Sometimes it's down to a couple of items and The Wife and I will do the old "If you get this, then I'll get this" thingy.

You can play the game that I made up for my family.

Everyone throws out 2 choices.

Then, one by one, you knock down the list. The first person says "Well, I don't want to go here...." So, that place is no longer considered. Whatever is left is where we go.

The only time I substitute is at breakfast. I HATE eggs, so I'll ask for a side of fruit or hashbrowns.... If they won't let me, no biggie, I'll just ask them to just not give it to me. Other than that, I'll ask for something on the side, like dressing for a salad.

I normally don't eat chains restaurants and love to try new things so I normally will tell a server I'll flag you down when I'm ready we may be a few deciding usually right when I'm seated so I don't waste their time. Almost every Friday my girl and I scope out a place off the beaten path and give it a try, we have tons of favs in Jacksonville as well but I hardly get the same thing everytime, or I may rotate a few dishes at some places. I love local, mom and pop type joints!

I always substitute the starchy potato off the meal for a green vegetable, usually green beens because most restaurants have those.

Probably right.

WIth that said, when they add that tax intor your check, which I can only assume for you its around 90%, do you calculate your tip on the before, or after, the asshole tax is added on.

We rarely go out to eat. When we do whomever decides we are going is the one who invites the others to a particular place they want to go. There's no debating.

If I want to take my wife to dinner she either wants to go to the restaurant I have invited her to or she doesn't.

The amount of the asshole tax is subjective, as far as a tip, If you think they fucked ya, return the favor.
