I thought it was a good one too.
This is the basement. A place where mindless bickering is allowed and encouraged.

The first line on Wikipedia (it's cited appropriately) for house music: "House music is a style of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago, Illinois, United States in the early 1980s ..."
The first line on Wikipedia (it's cited appropriately) for techno music: "Techno is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Detroit, Michigan (USA) in the mid to late 1980s ..."
I'm no aficionado like you, but it looks like you're splitting hairs. The two aren't the same, but listening to them, and reading on them, I think the rap-to-hip hop comparison seems pretty accurate.

On a real note. Look up some techno and tell me what you think. Its wack. I'm talking about the real shit....everyone labels electronic dance music as "techno" when in reality its wrong and not even that popular.
You may call it splitting hairs, but their sounds are completely different. Like I said...he came out at me and needed corrected, nothing more, nothing less.
As for rap/hip hop.... I wouldn't argue that. I interchange those terms.
