Yeah, this is no where close to Katrina. There was warnings and even buses to get people out of the city if they did not have the means. Nor is it similiar to the flooding in Ohio that some turdburglar on here was comparing it to when it comes down to giving aid to others.

Tsunami in Japan was devastating, no doubt. As bad as this is....remember a few years ago around Christmas when 250000 died in a tsunami?

Here is a list of countries the US should not ever send aid to...well until we owe them no longer!

after reading some of this in the wake of the terrible human suffering and devastation of this disaster, I am truly saddened and appalled by the ignorance of people who should know better, and by the utter lack of compassion.

the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc
Since you are implying that I am not in sorry in the least, Let me tell you my viewpoint on the subject. The war against Japan in WWII probably give me a different perspective than most. My viewpoint is shaped from the fact tha I grew up without 2 grandfathers because of these "poor people".

I lost my paternal grandfather in the retaking of Guam in 1943, and my Maternal Grandfather in the battle of Mannila in 1945. These people are raciscr opportunists that have no compassion for what goes on over here, and as far as I am concerened, would not care if the whole Island sank into the Pacific as a result of this.

Ignorant. no...... Bitter HELL YES. Compassionate Yes, for those that deserve compassion.

No one should have sent money (I sure as hell didn't) to a bunch of people who A) lived in a giant hole by the ocean B) Had at least 3 days notice to leave, maybe more C) Well there is no C.

Hurricane Katrina doesn't even hold a candle to what Japan is going through.

Clearly you and GWB don't care about black people.

HOw many parents are going to see ten dollar charges on their cell bills from kids texting to donate money? Few years ago that happened and I know we got a number of calls asking about it and most times it was on their kids lines!

As much as it pains me to say it, part of me can see sleeper's point.

I wouldn't hesitate at telling ANYONE to donate money to Japan. Not for a second.

However, I think that this should be a decision made by each individual who gives, and not a decision made to oblige all to give.

By all means, give! Give freely and generously! But give of only yourself and your resources. Don't try to give of your neighbor's resources if he doesn't have the same compassion as you.

I personally think they need less money and more support in the ways of actual clean up help. I'm just confused by what appears to be a total lack of caring by a large majority of people. That can be caring on 2 levels, general humanity or concern for our own country.

Actually, it seems to me that society at large has become so numb to the everyday happenings around the world that they likely see this as "this week's disaster." That is to say that they've even become numb to the suffering of others because they feel like they see it on the news and hear about it so often.

Think about it on the same plane as the Law of Diminishing Return, only for crises.

Whether you owe them $$$$ or not. You help the countries that would help you back in our time of need.

Japan offered assistance to our country after 9/11 and after Katrina.

What do you mean by Nuclear explosion? The nuclear plants started to go into shutdown at the first hint of the earthquake.

http://bravenewclimate.com/2011/03/13/fukushima-simple-explanation/

"When the earthquake hit with 8.9, the nuclear reactors all went into automatic shutdown. Within seconds after the earthquake started, the control rods had been inserted into the core and nuclear chain reaction of the uranium stopped."

I would suggest reading/watching something other than cnn or fox news. This isn't Chernobyl.

You claimed a "nuclear explosion" which if you read Jawbreakers article it wasn't a nuclear explosion, it was an explosion at the nuclear powerplant.
