Our open mats are conducted @

Groveport Madison Middle School NORTH
5474 Sedalia Drive
Columbus, OH 43232

We will have fliers for just about everything we can get our hands on; from camps to clinics to other open mats to clubs, to other open tournaments... Hope to see you then.

* I say just about because once a year the cleaning technicians strip and wax the floors and we are not allowed in the building. Also, we are trying (fingers crossed font on) to get something going in late June as far as a camp. But we'll see on that one...

Um, what time?

July = G.M.M.S. NORTH, 5474 Sedalia Drive, Columbus, OH 43232 Times...5pm to 6:30pm

I was supposed to mention this. I failed. Thanks Cthelites.

We talked about it at the meeting last week. One thing that is missed in the whole thing was that week was the fact that the attempt is to create an atmosphere that is competitive [think high numbers] (much like Solon, which was mentioned by name).

What I think was missed is the fact that I think Ready has that. Travel out to it and see. Tell me if I'm wrong. I also think we have that on Tuesday nights. Travel out and see it. Tell me if I'm wrong. I'm sure others believe they have it as well.

One thing is for certain, the attempt is to create one open mat that EVERYONE knows that EVERYONE will attend. My only apprehension is that I refuse to write a check that my kids have to cash. Honestly, we've run our open mat for 5 or 6 years now and quite a few kids and teams have benefited. Maybe when our own kids start showing up to them, we'll benefit too. (If you catch what I'm saying.)

I think a few rooms in Central Ohio have consistant numbers and competition. Groveport and Ready would certainly fit that mold. I don't mind the idea of an open mat being "hosted" by the Coaches Association, but I think the idea of it being rotated is not a good one. Half the problem with Central Ohio open mats is that too many programs host them so the kids are spread too thin on any given night. They need to know that a room at a particular school on a particular night is going to have numbers and competition. I bet the room will be totally different at Bradley then it will be at Big Walnut or Groveport.

What makes Solon great or Wadsworth or Perry is not just that its got great numbers and high level wrestlers, it's that it's a dependable. Ready and Groveport have a nice following, but need bigger numbers. I'd love to see Hamilton Twp. be able to fill that awesome room on Wednesday nights. Now all you need is a good Thursday room and you're set. The problem is, it won't work out that way. Everyone wants to host their own open mat so on any given day, you have five rooms with 15 kids rather than one room with 75.

I agree with the room we have you could not ask for much more just need the kids to fill it we have the entire gym full of mats and 2 workout rooms with everything you need it be in the best shape.

Remember Cuiser, I'm too small to roll with Westie anymore. If he comes up to The Port, you're the guy.

bribacker51...I'm totally with you. There are not many rooms that could handle a "Solon style" open mat when it comes to shear numbers, but that Hamilton room could, and then some. It's a great space that I know could be a great opportunity for all of Central Ohio. But Central Ohio doesn't seem to want a "Solon style" open mat. It's our loss.

I'm going to try to keep it off this time. Well, sort of. I think I'll stay around 170 when I'm not working out (like now). However, I did save all my "fat clothes" just in case.

Wise beyond your years. It is amazing to think how far you've come! Between you and P. who lost more?
