Great game...might knock Pitt out of contention for a #1 seed.
IMO whoever wins the Big East tourny, will get 1 seed. Unless it's a sleeper pick.

Agree. Not a "bad loss" though St. John's is unranked, they've got great wins at home so it probably won't be as devastating were it someone else.

Great play by Hardy. Lavin, at this point, is the national coach of the year. He inherited an extraordinary playmaker in Hardy and Gene Keady's addition to the Red Storm staff has clearly paid hefty dividends as a special assistant/in-game strategist. Seeing Lou Carnesseca stand in pride in the stands of MSG at the end of this game was like watching the old lady from Titanic stand on the hull of the deep sea diving boat and happily drop the Heart of the Ocean into the water. I think he may die in his sleep tonight. The Storm is back on the national stage, and I think they are going to stay a long while.

What a game. This puts Duke back in the driver's seat over Pitt for the No. 1 seed. Right now, it's Texas, Ohio State, Duke and Kansas, with the best from the Big East waiting for one of the above to falter next.

I agree with 3 of the teams. I still think Duke is a question mark. If Pitt wins the Big East Tourney I think they get the edge above Duke for the last 1 seed. But there is still alot of basketball to be played and I believe it will all shake out.

If Duke loses once more in the regular season, which really is pretty likely with remaining road contests at Va Tech and North Carolina in addition to a home game with Temple, then the Blue Devils will probably be in serious jeopardy of not acquiring a 1 seed. I agree with you in that respect. However, if Duke wins out, including the ACC Tournament, the Blue Devils are a lock for a No. 1.

A 32-2 Duke team is not going to be left out.

I agree if Duke runs the table and finishes 32-2 they will be a #1 seed. The Longhorns are in danger right now.

Lavin is doing the job he should be doing this year in my opinion. He took over a talented, senior laden team. He's obviously a better coach than Norm Roberts (it would have been difficult for him not to be), but it isn't like he inherited a team of scrubs. They won 17 last year and brought back 8 of the 9 players who averaged 10+ minutes per game. This should be a 20 win, tournament team.

I think he was definitely a great hire, but calling him the coach of the year is a little much (even in the Big East, let alone nationally). They were picked 6th in the BE before the season by the coaches, and were expected by most to be a tournament team. In comparison, Notre Dame was picked 7th, Louisville t-8th, and UConn 10th. Obviously it remains to be seen where the teams will actually end up, but I think Mike Brey has to be the conference coach of the year at this point.

Temple is going to be an easy win for Duke. They are a solid team, but just lost a key player for the season (Michael Eric). They are a thin team that is going to go down as a top 20 RPI win, but they won't be the same team going forward.

Duke beats Temple by 20+.

I know the ref was standing right by the final play, which I thought was an incredible shot, but he stopped looking down a little early. As great as the shot was, he appeared to have stepped on the base line. But it was ok because by the time he did, the ref was looking up. This doesn't mean Pitt can't play with the "big boys", as St. Johns at home is very hostile (of course in a couple weeks they get the home "Big East Tourney").

If you google the Hardy shot, it shows a questionable view (heels are up), but it is a few slides before this that have me wondering. But Pitt has to answer to me "where is Mcgee?" on this play. He wasn't fouled out I don't think, and they needed a stopping force inside. Pitt gets a WVU team coming off of a big win later this week, so there is no time for moping around in the Big East.

If your talking about this photo yes it looks like he out, but if his heels are not down then he is in bounds.

Tiger, that's the one that I think his heels are up so he is in, it is a couple frames before that when his foot is planted parallel and the right side of it appears on the line. As far as the players, they better be thinking about the next game, not the last. Games happen really fast now, and only get faster over the next month or so.
