I'm not sure those two are 100% dependent on each other. I know people who are great workers, but not great negotiators and they should be making more than they are now. I also know some who are complete suckups (or children of people who are high up in the company) who are getting paid way more than they deserve. It definitely helps if you are good at what you do, but a lot of it is based on perception IMHO.

well i dont teach AP...and probly wont ever teach in an affluent area....if i could make 100000 then im all for it but people would still complain that it was too much. if i could make 70000 i would be happy. however hopefully i will be in admin over next two years which is about 93000 or so.

show me a post where someone said it was great or they got a better job or money or benefits. in this thread and the one on merit pay and wisconsin workers, there are tons of posts where people tell the teachers to stop whining because they should feel lucky. pretty much all of otraps posts and buckeyes posts tell how dreadful the private sector is right now....

I'll do it right now. I was just promoted within the past year, and originally the offer was to move me out of state. I negotiated to stay here and I got a bonus in the end to boot plus a 25% pay raise. It works for me. Will you quit bitching now?

They aren't complaining about how it sucks to not have a CBA, they are telling you how out of touch public union employees are with the realities of the economy.

You haven't read my posts then.
3 years ago switch companies right at the start of the recession and negotiated a 30% pay raise and an extra week of vacation above what I got at my previous employer.

Oh yeah, my wife just started her first job out of the home in about 7 years. She negotiated an extra few thousand and gets her 1 week vacation at 6 months instead of 1 year.jmog;691890 wrote:You haven't read my posts then.

This is me. I graduated in May 2008 and am still jobless as far as a full time teacher is concerned. Instead, I work part time for 2 separate districts and receive nothing besides STRS/Michigan-STRS (Forget the actual name).
I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. I've had ~10 interviews over these 3 years but lose out to "more experienced" people. I'm hoping that I now have 2 part time positions that it will eventually=1 full time.

congrats! i like to hear that. i honestly want everyone to do well ...ive been teaching 15 years and ive never felt like a burden on taxpayers. i dont like the feeling. seriously never crossed my mind much at all until about a month ago. i always felt thankful toward them and they towards myself. cant count the thousands of dollars ive spent on gas and materials for students always just did what needed to be done. i also never experienced taxpayer malevolence before. weird

As I noted earlier, you can't trust any poll that doesn't tell you WHO they polled. Saying you got the opinions of 1,000 adults says nothing about who they are, how they lean politically, their ages, occupations, etc.
This poll is a disgrace, so far as journalism goes.
