WTF is up with people writing of instead of have?!

Would of, could of, should of....are you kidding me? I am easily annoyed (maybe too easily annoyed) with mistakes like this but I just don't get how people can think this is correct...or can let this slide when they see it. I mean would it make sense to use would've, could've or should've if it was of instead of have? No. What grade do we learn things like this? I can't ever remember not knowing it.

Sorry but I just had to rant about this. We all have our pet peeves.

PS why do people get pissed when you correct them on things like this? If I make a mistake I would prefer someone tell me so I don't go around sounding/looking like an idiot.

It was the same grade where they learned to start a sentence with WTF.

Sounds about right.

I knew this thread would go this direction but seriously...I don't get it. I've seen it more in the last 6 months than in my entire life. It's weird.

That must of (lolz) been after the trailing off thread topic class.

Also; you missed periods on P.S.

Because they are too stupid to understand that it is could've and don't understand contractions. These are the some people who use "your" instead of "you're".

It's similar to when people say anyway(s) instead of anyway. I don't get it either.

I am probably guilty of that one. I make mistakes (and my mom corrects me ALL the time) but this one just seems so ridiculous to me. If it's would've, could've, should've it's obviously have and not of.

Most hated mistake: "I seen," as in, "I seen this commercial the other day"

No, you didn't "seen" anything. You saw. Or you are seeing. Nobody "seens" anything.

gone/went grinds my gears.

The proper grammar is "I went to the store to get a bottle of Jack before the OSU game." Or, "Wow, I should have gone to the store to get a bottle of Jack." Not, "I should have went to the store to get a bottle of Jack." Or even worse, to tie into the initial post, "I should of went to the store to get a bottle of Jack." This is so prevalent in my old neck of the woods.

I swear public schools in SE Ohio actively teach the wrong way of speaking.
