To those ITers,
I am getting a website created (or would like one created). It is roughly 33 pages.

I have a couple of offers to do the website for me for $150. Is this a good price? I have seen some example work from the creators and they do good work.

The website is mainly just a soccer site for a community that needs a lift. This is my way of trying to help the community through the "beautiful game." So, I do not want to wrap a WHOLE lot of money into the site, but want it to be flashy, good, attractive, but still simple (a complex website probably wouldn't go good for this community).

I need a domain too. I have some ideas, and have shopped around on godaddy. Are there any other good webhosting and domain websites that are fairly decently priced while still being good quality and secure?

$150 is REALLY cheap. Are they doing design and development for $150? Where are they based? I'm assuming that this is just going to be a static html website.

My recommendation for a hosting and domains is Nexigen. It's a Cincinnati based company that we do all of our hosting through work with.

This is actually a favor for me -- I am extremely grateful too.

What do you mean by "develpment" too? Static html is fine by me, it doesn't need to be anything extremely fancy. It's basically an informative website that one can also go to for some pictures, schedules, etc. for whatever high school, middle school, and youth soccer player in the community would want/need.

I actually have two offers for $150, one is based in the Philippines. I am not sure where the other is based at.

I searched around on Nexigen, their domain search site isn't working. Do you know what the prices they have for domains and hosting?

By development I meant actually building the site.

Domain names are $9.99 at nexigen, $11.99 if you want a private domain. You can get them cheaper elsewhere but godaddy is the only other company I have used and I hate it. Their cheapest hosting plan is $76/year. Again, there are cheaper options out there I just don't like them personally.

The domain is a one time fee, right?

I really would like to have as few $$$ wrapped up into this, if I can. It's not going to make me any money, nor is it going to be that beneficial to me. But I think it's a necessary site. So I am trying to get good security and good hosting for good $$$.

And yes, the person will be doing all the design and development for me. I do have a google site put together as a sort of "template" for the designer/developer, but I'll let them have a lot of freedom and fun.

Try Sedo.com for the domain and 1and1.com for hosting deals.They have a special going on for 6 free month hosting.

Yeah. I mean, if it's as simple of a site as he's saying there really isn't much they can screw up. It probably won't be the best looking site for $150 but it will probably be fine. For what he wants it might be worthwhile for him to learn it and build it on his own. It isn't hard building a basic website.

I've been at a design agency for the past 13 months but before that I worked at large corporations and really had no concept on how much you'd pay for a website going through an agency. The cheapest website we've done since I've been here (outside of pro-bono stuff for non-profits) was about $10,000.

My friend and I are (hopefully) getting a site on the side here soon and the estimate we sent was just under $23,000.

Domain names: NameCheap.com ... they let you make your info private for free, and domains are about $10 a year

Server space: LaceHost.com ... $2 a month, and unless you are expecting a TON of traffic, plenty of bandwidth

In terms of site creation, I'd just as soon say do it yourself with something like XSitePro. Makes it really easy. Here's a link: <a href="http://www.xsitepro.com/" onclick="location.href='http://www.xsitepro.com/index_r.html?p=ref187';return !1;">http://www.xsitepro.com/</a>
It's about $200 (cheaper than when I bought it ... it was $350 back then), but you can use it over and over, so for any sites in the future, you don't need to pay again. Comes with some pretty good templates and such.

That's what I use to build my business sites.

I now charge about $500, but I typically only do about 10-15 pages. I'd probably double it for 30.

One price was quoted nearly $825 or something like that, he does one page for $25 -- 33 pages would be $825. The person gave me a special price because of what it's for.

The other quote of $150 was originally $250 -- but I said I couldn't really do that because I am not looking at investing A LOT of money into this site. I wish I could do it myself, but I am not good with design and development. I think I do a fairly decent job of critiquing a site, and I know what I want out of a site.

It is a basic site. Just informational stuff. Text, charts, calendars, rosters, stats, and then some pictures. Maybe, maybe even link Youtube videos eventually. I just want to give the programs something they can have some pride in, and hopefully develop that pride into the program itself. If the site is easy to edit, I would appreciate that because I really don't know my way around a web design program. So I would need to be able to edit text and add anything I want to.

Yeah, NameCheap was the one I mentioned too. They're easy to buy from and add to servers. Plus, free privacy.

He's going to get a template with a couple plug-and-play images, basically.

With web design, you pretty much get what you pay for unless someone you know is doing you a favor (Thanks, Justin!).

Every site I build these days is a CMS (drupal). $150 wouldn't touch just installing it on the server, setting up the database, and creating the admin account. :)

Yeah that's why I asked. I used to build sites for a living, and still do some on the side. Now I do IT for a living. Much prefer the IT.

I have tried to get a buddy of mine to do the site for me, with some of my help...but he's married and "busy" so he can't do it. I have tried and tried to contact him, and he is just really hard to get on the phone. He could also use it to build his résumé. I would like him to do it, especially since I trust him before I'd trust someone else that I don't know.

Alright.

Well...did some looking up about CMS, and that's not what I want. There would probably be nothing like that.

Basically, it's a good design along with text and pictures. The calendar and stats is pretty basic, it's just typed stats included. Maybe attach some .pdf files or something. It is pretty basic. It's probably little to no flash. Little to no animation.
