I said he can recruit. I won't argue that. Yipee. There is much, much, much more to coaching than recruiting.

His strategy fails him come tournament time EVERY time. He's won a lot of games and still underachieved. He's taking a bunch of talent and beat up on a Big Ten that has been down for most of his tenure. I'm telling you, depending on matchups, I would not be shocked if the Buckeyes didn't make it to the Sweet 16. Regardless of matchups, I will be pretty surprised if they make it further than that. Thad Matta is and always has been overrated as a coach--does a lot of things well but just like Izzo overachieves most of the time with his talent--Matta underachieves. But whatever, a lot of Buckeye fans around here (I'm sure a lot more now that they're undefeated) so I don't expect many to agree with me. Save yourself the argument, you won't change my mind.

Hence why I said most of the time. It's not like you can argue the fact, or the fact that he is the best coach in the Big Ten and it isn't even close.

Seriously? People may think he's all recruiting, but his year at Butler, 3 years at Xavier, and first 2 years at Ohio State suggests otherwise. His recruiting is certainly top notch, and he's had some "down" years at Ohio State for the talent they've had, but the guy is a pretty darn good coach.

He's not a bad coach by any means. But I don't think he's in that upper echelon like many people think he is, mainly Ohio State fans of course. I can't knock them too bad for supporting their guy. But some argue that he's top 5 in the country, some argue top 3. I don't think he's top 10.

I think he creeps in at #10 among active coaches...the ones I would have over him (in order from 9th to 1st):

Calipari, Calhoun, Donovan, Pitino, Boeheim, Self, Williams, Izzo, Krzyzewski

Can't think of a 10th in the country that's better. I'm sure arguments can be made, but you can't argue with his body of work (1 possibly 2 POY, 1 final four, several conference championships, and never less than 20 wins a year).

Now, I can see the argument for Bo Ryan and Gary Williams, but Maryland hasn't been relevant for a few years now and Wisconsin can't make the leap into the elite echelon.

You may have a point if Ohio State was the only team he ever coached. But he took a mid major in Butler to the second round of the tournament in his first and only year. He took a Xavier squad to the elite 8 that had Duke on the ropes.

In 2006 the Buckeyes didn't have a single NBA player and won the Big Ten outright despite other teams like Michigan State and Illinois being filled with talent. The two years he REALLY had a lot talent (2007 & This Year) are the years Ohio State is one of the top teams in the country. From 2008-2010 they had to reload and start fresh each season with so many players leaving early or transferring and they still ended up winning 20+ games a year. Last year they had NO BENCH at all and could only rely on a starting 5 with no inside presence. Matta is clearly a top 5-10 coach if you ask me and more than just a recruiter.

One other thing to point out. It is said that no Coach gets more out of his players than Thad Matta. When you look at the lack of success former Buckeyes are having in the NBA from Conley (he has improved but still not playing like a #4 pick), Cook, Mullens, and Turner, show that statement of making players better than what they really are true.

One can say Calipari wins soley on a talent. I think both Roy Williams and Bill Self are overrated. The other coaches mentioned I can't argue with. I say Matta is top 6. We have to remember that Matta was winning at mid major schools that had nowhere near the talent as he now has at Ohio State.

I didn't things could get worse than Jordo on the 1st page but saying Roy Williams and Bill Self are overrated is hilarious.

Also whoever said Matt is the best recruiter I don't agree with that either. I'd take K, William, Self, Izzo, and Calipari all over Matta in overall recruiting.

Well it really would depend on how long you think they would hang tough.I'd say that Cavs would open up a 10+ lead in the first 3-5 minutes and never look back. As for Sullinger right now he wouldn't be the best Cavs player. Probably in a year or 2 he would be. I guess what you said really isn't that crazy just I like others on here don't agree with you :P.

I dont think he really believes this, he just trying to ruffle some feathers.

A college team that might have 4 NBA players on it isnt going to hang tough with a NBA team for more than 5 minutes. This game would be over at halftime
