I bought a 42" Vizio 120Hz lcd at costco a few weeks ago. The picture is great but there are sound issues and the build quality is suspect at best. Thanks to costco's great return policy I am planning on returning it and going with an LED tv. My wife and I went to best buy this weekend to check out different models and the best looking tv there was a 240Hz 3D Samsung. It wasn't set up for 3D viewing so I have no idea how that looks but the regular picture was absurdly good. Easily the best picture I have ever seen.

I'm not sure I have much faith that the 3D thing will stick around for long so I wouldn't be buying any 3D kit for it now. That said, does anyone on here actually have a 3D tv that they use for 3D viewing? The demos I've seen are pretty cool but I'm not sure it's worth the extra money on top of the tv right now.

I am definitely ditching the vizio. It was one of the few times I've ever cheaped out on an electronics purchase and I almost immediately regretted it.

I don't think 3D will be around very long either. I'm pretty psyched that they are making the 3D sets because I am guessing that 2D television prices will drop. Give me an outstanding picture on a 2D set any day over a 3D set. Wearing goofy glasses so I can enjoy my very expensive TV? No thanks :)

Yeah. The Samsung I am looking at has a better picture than any 2D set I've ever seen and it's only slightly more than a high end 2D tv.

I have a pair of Samsungs. A 42" plasma and a 54" projection, both about 5 years old and no issues thus far. They are pre led and were top notch at the time, I haven't been disappointed.

Get a plasma. And for god sakes don't pay any attention to how many Hz the tv has.

Plasma, IMO as well.

My TV viewing preference:

HD projector
Plasma
LED
LCD

You can get a larger plasma with a better quality picture (IMO) than an LCD/LED...Best bang for the buck, best picture quality.

I like the Panasonic plasmas.

This is going in our living room so we are going the LED route since there is A LOT of sunlight that gets in and we are also hanging it on the wall and would like it to be as flush as possible.

I just got a projector last week and it is amazing. If you have the right set up for it I would highly recommend it. I paid $750 and now have a 92" screen.

I just got a Panasonic plasma and I absolutely love it. Its a 50" and fits my living room perfect. I positioned it between the two windows in my living room and dont have the glare that they talk about with plasmas.

Don't use info from 2005. LEDs have glossier screens than most high end plasmas.

Hmm. I've had no problems with my Vizio. Had it since 2007. Of course it has always been hooked up to a theater in a box, but I have heard of sound issues, but pretty much no other complaints that I have found.

That being said we are upgrading to a 50" something soon. Probably won't be a Vizio.

Plasma's are great and it's likely what I'll be getting when I set up my home theater in my office. That doesn't mean one will work with what we want to do in our living room.

I bought last month a Panasonic HDTV LED 37" .... had to fit in the cabinet in the family Room

Have it hooked up to the computer laptop, wireless and cable ..... love it


We looked at the 3D but .. I'll wait for the next wave of better products

Have a pair of Samsung 50" 720p plasmas. Bought them both at HH Gregg about a year apart. The last one we bought about a month ago for a little under $700.00. Great picture but I believe the depth is 2.5" or so. Great deal on a great TV

Not to get too technical but one of the major factors in the price differences is the panel type. I know that if you buy an LG, do not buy one with a "D" in the model number because it is the budget panel. Not sure how you tell on other brands.
