Haven't had the Tripel, but I have had the Abt 12 (their quad). It's great. I'd still probably lean toward something from Unibroue, but you won't go wrong with St. Bernardus.vdubb96;1180972 wrote:Buddy of mine just sent me a pic of St. Bernardus Tripel. It's a belgian Abbey Ale. He said it was terrific. I looked it up on BA, it rated a 97. Have any of you ever tried it?

Still looking for Laguintas out here. No luck. I'm about thinking it might not be in this area of Colorado.
Good news is I did find a bomber of the Alaskan Smoked Porter 2008 and a Rogue Voodoo Doughnut. Both of these I have yet to try.

There are definitely much better breweries than Rogue, I don't remember the last time I bought any of their beers. But they do have a few that are very good, I'd say shitty is pretty harsh.Mooney44Cards;1181524 wrote:Also, Rogue is a shitty brewery.

Rogue has some good stuff but a ****ty brewery is not an accurate description. I give them props for trying some very unique and interesting brews.

I don't know if they are a shitty brewery or not. I admit that I haven't drank much, if any, of their beers over the last couple of years. They did win quite a few awards at the World Beer Championships in the mid 2000's.
It might be that they have become over exposed and some of their special beers don't make it to Ohio like they used to. I also don't see a lot of any new beers from them on the shelf. If anything I see less and less of their regular beers on the shelves where I shop.
I honestly believe with all the new breweries starting people are tying new breweries since they've never had them as compared to having so many of the Rogue Ales over the years. At least that's the case with me. You have to remember there were a lot less choices out there 5-6 years ago.
After typing all that now I'm craving a Dad's Little Helper...the Malt Liquor version of it years ago, not the Black IPA which it has become and I have yet to see.

I like their bomber selection, couldn't remember the last 6 pack I bought. I really enjoy their chocolate stout. Their chipotle ale was very interesting, probably wouldn't buy it again, but I found it very interesting and I'm glad I tried it. Their Irish lager was horrid though.

I got a bomber of the Rogue Chocolate Stout for my birthday a few months back. Still haven't tried it yet so that's good to hear. Also have bombers of Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout, Left Hand Wake Up Dead Imperial Stout, Heavy Seas Siren Noire Imperial Chocolate Stout and Southern Tier Jahva Imperial Coffee Stout.

Damn that's a nice collection. If I had room for it, I'd like to start to building some inventory. ATM if I have it, its gone within a week.killer_ewok;1181854 wrote:I got a bomber of the Rogue Chocolate Stout for my birthday a few months back. Still haven't tried it yet so that's good to hear. One of the classics, my friend. Well worth it; all 8 times I've read through it. If you can wade through the early stuff, it's smooth sailing. Gardens has some funny stuff throughout... a lot better than the the character posts found early.Curly J;1181841 wrote:Ah much better and yes it does help. Back on topic, going to drink some Left Handed Milk Stout Nitro tonight. I prefer that over Guinness, and I never thought I would say that.

Going with Victory Storm King Stout tonight. Never had it but I enjoy their Hops Devil.
On Beer Advocate Jason (One of the site's main reviewers and Alstrom Bros) says this about it; "Notes: This one goes down as one of the greatest, not just one of the greatest Imperial Stouts but as one of the greatest beers in the world. As close to perfection as you can get."
looking forward to checking it out.

Wow. That's high praise. I've never even seen it anywhere. I love their Hop Devil and Prima Pils. Looking forward to hearing how good it is.

I've noticed that the other day about Gardens. I miss his little one liners.
I'm glad you did say that concerning Guinness. I'm done with them. Their Parent Company, Diageo, pulled a crappy stunt on BrewDog in Scotland a week or so back. Check out #andthewinnerisnot on Twitter for the whole story.
