The small one is an Avery Mephistopeles' Stout. 16.8% ABV of awesomeness. This might be the best Stout I've ever had. I believe this one was from batch #1.
Never seen either in the wild. Will have to keep an eye out.

I had 3 of them I believe at one time. Got them at a Stone Tasting Greg Koch had at Jungle Jim's. There were over 500 people there. Got to meet him and get his Autograph. The Wife had her picture taken with him. I still have my Autographed bottle of Lucky Bastard. Actually giving him that bottle was a last second decision as it was Stout heavy collection.

The Yorkshire Stingo is a style of it's own. I like to refer to it as a Barleywine Lite. At $9.99 a bottle, for a Samuel Smith is pricey, yet worth it for this beer. I'll probably have some more Friday and Saturday at Jungle Jim's Beer Fest.

The Wife with Greg Koch. Had to make sure I got the Lucky Bastard bottle in there.

Perhaps I did. You have good taste, so I'll trust your judgment and give them another whirl.
Commander of Awesome;1195904 wrote:Just opened it up, you're right O-Trap, its great. Thanks Curly, probably wouldn't have thought to even check out Barleywines if it weren't for you.

Barleywines are my favorite autumn brew, though I'll look for an excuse to drink one about any time of year. My personal favorite is Stone's Old Guardian, mostly for the taste but partially out of availability.
Curly J;1195922 wrote:Well it's been 9 months. What's the over/under on how many beers Justin has left?
I do love Southern Tier, and I see several of their novelty stouts. A good lot of them. Only one I hadn't tried until a week ago was that creme brulee stout. All three are fantastic (and as I recall, that Mokah packs a decent punch at somewhere above 11%).

There's not even a mediocre beer among them. You need to get your ass up to Akron with some of that! I'll reimburse!

In the winter, nothing hits the spot like an Imperial Stout. The Tiny is a FANTASTIC option among them (others which come readily to mind are Goose Island's Night Stalker (retired, which really pisses me off!), Avery's Czar, North Coast's Old Rasputin (fourth from the right in Justin's picture), and New Holland's Dragon's Milk Barrel Aged (they call it an Oak Barrel Ale, but it's an American Stout).

I've never had the Mephistopeles living in Ohio, but I have a friend from Rochester who says it's fantastic.

Highly recommend the Tiny on a colder night. It's thick, dark, and warm. Hearty enough that it could fill you up in place of dinner, too.

And as always OTrap does not disappoint.

I'm lucky enough to be able to Rivertown Lambic with it being local. I believe it's currently 7th on BA in unblended lambics. I love it even at around $13.00 a bomber. It's sour...so sour it makes your mouth water. Very Lemony. It's aged a year in Port wine barrels and it only comes out once a year. It's like no other lambic I ever had. I've always had fruit lambic before this one, so it threw me for a loop when I first had it.

Little background on this lambic that I heard but can't confirm. Jason, the brewer of this beer, actually won the Sam Adams Long Shot contest with this lambic. However SA could not mass produce it due to the amount of time that it takes to make. So they took an easier beer to mass produce over his. I've met and talked to Jason a couple of times, but never asked him for the full story. I plan on visiting their brewery and tasting room this summer so hopefully I get a chance to verify it. I do know he has a framed Long Shot Winner picture in his office that I've seen in pictures and a video interview.

See, now that sounds like a Lambic I could get on board with. The two I had were VERY fruity. I think my nuts shrank while drinking them. Very disappointed when I had the first couple sips.

Well looks like I'll have to add at least one more beer to my stash for our "Suds for Sticks" swap...if I ever make to Akron. :D

Lambics are one of the styles I'm lacking experience with. Need to remedy that next time I go to Vintage Estates.

I like it but it's lacking flavor for me honestly. I like the smoothness but for that kind of drinkable stout I'd just much rather a Left Hand Milk Stout (particularly Nitro). Simply more and better flavor but retains the drinkability.

Bingo. I'm not into 4% stouts. Plus what Diageo, their owning company, pulled lately against BrewDog I will never drink it again. Simply put Big Beer Thug Tactics. If you twitter look up #andthewinnerisnot.

Finally getting into the brew I bought Friday. I thought Guinness was good but nothing overly special. Just finished a St. Pauli Girl special dark and it wasn't bad. Now I'm drinking a regular St. Pauli Girl lager.

On to the Dogfish Head 90 Min Imperial IPA. I'm pretty pumped because every one of these beers have been smooth so far. I decided to save the Great Lakes: Lake Erie Monster and Rogue Dead Guy Ale for last.

Have you had DFH 90 min before? You're in for a treat.

Nope, all of the beers I picked up were new to me. I'm digging the 90 Minute. I will definitely get it again.

How close are you to Dayton? I might be able to justify a trip down in the next week or so (work has a facility down there, but I'm only at this job for another 8 days).

DFH Imperial IPAs are good. If you can ever sneak over a border and find the 120, I recommend that as well.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool that the place had a make your own 6 pack section. Another pro to the situation is that almost every beer they have in the section is one I have yet to try.

Love places that let you do that and I'm glad there's quite a few around me.

If you are going to do the Lake Erie Monster tonight then save the Dead Guy for another time. You won't really taste it for what it is...just sayin' (From experience)

Just the one around me I do believe but it's fine. I thought I read on here once that Kroger has a pretty decent selection. So I will just head there after I finish at the place I go to now.

It's pretty strong, they call it a monster for a reason.
