A lot better when I had it Friday night.....but IPAs are always better when they're fresh. And I'm pretty sure this batch of Lake Erie Monster was JUST released.
I willhave to look for it, they did not have it at a local grocier, so I ended up buying some Doppelrock.

Guys, I think Lake Erie Monster may be easily one of top 3 beers I've ever had. It has all the same great flavors I get out of White Rajah, without being quite as sweet. So overall I'd call it a more balanced White Rajah. They need to make this freaking beer year round.

I have to admit it's my favorite beer from them. I really liked it on tap at Gordo's Pub. (They have one in Norwood, but I'm not sure what they have on tap there right now)

Isn't it odd that all of their best beers are seasonal? (Nosferatu, Lake Erie Monster, Christmas Ale) I mean to be honest, I don't really even bother with their year round stuff unless I'm at a bar/restaurant and its the best option.

Did you like the Smuttynose IPA? I didn't like it much when I had it, not sweet enough for me. I think the only IPA I've had that was worse than Smuttynose was Christian Moerlein.

I do like it, but I am not a beer snob to the same degree as some. Hell, I will drink Budweiser if that is all that is available and not complain. Smuttynose isn't my favorite beer but it will work for me on a Monday evening.

I don't think it's odd. I feel the same way about most breweries. It's that looking forward to the release that pumps up the beers when you finally taste it. There are some exceptions that have everyday great beer for me. (Stone, Victory, DFH, Founders to mention some) I'm not a huge GL fan, but I do like their upper end, higher ABV beers. I'll choose one of the breweries I mentioned for everyday beers. It's only about a dollar more a six pack over GL.

Just got back to Ohio spending 2 weeks at my parents house before work this summer and I open up the fridge downstairs and there's still some Christmas Ale. It may be old, but I know what I'm drinking for the next few days.

I see what you're saying as those are their top beers but Edmund Fitz is a pretty damn good year round brew.

I agree, my favorite beers from most breweries are usually their seasonal beers (even the ones you mentioned). Double Bastard/ IRS from Stone and KBS/BS/Double Trouble from Founders.

Agreed. Double Bastard is probably my favorite beer, have yet to try KBS. It WILL be mine next time it rolls out.

Picked up a Lake Erie Monster today (first time I have seen it this season). Never had it before, and while it's solid...for the $10 for a 4 pack I think better options are available. Still glad I tried it, but not my favorite Imperial IPA. Little too sweet for my taste.

Picked up a bomber of Stone Imperial Russian Stout, and a bomber of Chocolate Oaked Yeti.

Regarding your assertion that Lake Erie Monster is too expensive.....its about the same as any good Imperial IPA. Cheaper than many actually. If you convince me of a IIPA that's better than LEM and cheaper, I'll concede the point.

Also I realize that Old Rasputin is an Imperial Stout. As for Imperial IPAs I'll have to think about it.

I think he meant another Imperial IPA that was just as good and cheaper. Old Rasputin is a RIS.

It's also an Imperial Stout, not an IPA

Yeah I realized my mistake after posting. I can think of several bombers I can buy for less, I'll have to think about a 4 pack.

Not always, but almost always, bombers give you less oz/$ than 6-packs. For instance, Sculpin by Ballast Point is $8.99 for a 22 oz. bomber. But it's $14.99 for a 6-pack.

That breaks down to about 21 cents/oz in the 6-pack and 41 cents/oz for the bomber.

That's just one example but its pretty much the same across the board, just to different degrees. Feel free to check it out yourself, and NEVER buy a bomber if there are sixers available.

Double Trouble is the same price everywhere I've been, and Hoptimum I agree (what is it, like $8.99 for a 4pack?)....except that Sierra Nevada is pretty much cheaper than every microbrewery in the country in terms of bang for the buck.

I think Lake Erie Monster is pretty much on par or cheaper than every IIPA out there.

Besides, I don't think price is any way to judge a beer. If its good, its worth it.

I agree, I'm looking to drink stuff that tastes good. Paid $25 for a bottle of Cantillon Lou Pepe and would do it again in a second; was amazing.

LOL, I should mention that I am drinking a Steel Reserve tallboy right now; bought it at the gas station earlier as kind of a joke. It's actually not as awful as I thought It'd be. It's far from good, but I'm about to finish it and I'm pretty sure I'd take it over a Heineken.
