Luke Jackson was a terrible pick. Other than that it hasn't been bad. Everyone else is late 1st or 2nd round picks. Most round 2 guys are flops like Green, Ugboaja, D-Block.
Shannon Brown is solid, Mike Brown never gave him a shot.
JJ averaged 13 and 11 last month.
Eyenga was drafted for the sole reason of stashing him overseas so they could keep roster space open to add vets to the team last year (FAIL). He still shows some promise.
I don't think many teams who have been real good have much to show from the draft the last few years.

Look at the players that were drafted after some of the Cavs picks. They have not done a good job at all.

You could say that about any team, lol. What should they have done, where had a good team drafted any better?

What should they have done?
Draft Dajuan Blair instead of Eyenga.
It's only 1 pick, but at least Blair is a player who can actually PLAY in the NBA.

2006
After Shannon Brown:
Farmar, Sergio Rodriguez, Maurice Ager, Mardy Collins, Freeland, James White, Novak, Solomon Jones, Paul Davis, PJ Tucker, Craig Smith, Bobby Jones, Kosta Perovic, David Noel, Denhm Brown, James Augustine
don't see anyone there
After Boobie:
Marcus Vinicius, Lior Eliyhu, Alexander Johnson, Dee Brown, Paul Millsap, Vladimir Veremeenko, Leon Powe, Ryan Hollins, Cheikh Samb, Guillermo Diaz, Yotam Halperin, Hassan Adams
Millsap is the only one, but he came out of nowhere and everyone passed on him. Cavs had Gooden.
After Ugboja:
5 guys I've never heard of
2008
After JJ Hickson:
Alexis Ajinca, Ryan Anderson, Coutney Lee, Kosta Koufos, Serge Ibaka, Nicolas Batum, George Hill, Darrell Arthur, Donte Green, DJ White, JR Giddens, Nikol Pekovic, etc
Ibaka and Hill are decent, not better than Hickson. Ibaka could be.
2009:
Already told you Eyenga was picked because he didn't need to be guaranteed a spot on the roster. They already had Shaq, Z, Hickson, Andy, and signed Powe.
Afer Eyenga:
Jeff Pendergraph, Jermaine Taylor, Dante Cunninghama, Sergio Llull, DaJuan Summers, Sam Young, DeJuan Blair, Jon Brockman, Jonas Jerebko, Derrick Brown, Jodie Meeks, Patrick Beverly, Marcus Thornton, Chase Budinger, Nick Calathes.
After Danny Green:
nothing much
So you mention the 1 guy, Blair, out of all those picks when the Cavs already had Shaq, Z, Andy, and JJ and were going all out to win a title that year. I don't see where you think they could have drafted better. If anything it looks like they did pretty well with how low their picks were and how few they had. If you aren't a lottery pick in the NBA you usually don't make it.

All I'm saying is that the recent draft history of the Cavs does not instill a lot of confidence in them making a great pick.

Who does have a great draft history?
Anyways, this is a completely different ownership and front office now so history doesn't really matter.

George Hill is a better NBA player than JJ Hickson. I really can't believe you don't think that. Hell, Batum is playing better basketball than JJ.
And drafting Eyenga to send him back overseas is just a bad decision, no matter who is on your roster. NOT drafting a player would have been a better decision. Dajuan Blair is already a better player than JJ is and he would have actually played in the playoffs.

George Hill is a slightly better Boobie Gibson. He's playing with 3 all stars and maybe the best coach in the game, of course he's going to look good. Same with Blair.
You realize out of 4 years you are picking a couple names out of hundreds. The ones you are picking (Blair, Hill, Batum) are good players but not great. You also aren't looking at what the Cavs had and were looking to accomplish. When the Cavs passed on Hill they needed a PF so they took JJ. They had Boobie, Delonte, and Sasha at the guard spot. They had Ben Wallace and Joe Smith at PF. Why would they draft another guard?
You can't just look at past drafts and look for names that are better, every team misses out on guys. I can't believe the Cavs didn't miss out on more. They are where they are at not because of their drafting ability. It's because Lebron left, Larry Hughes was a bust and handicapped what they could do for a few years, and Boozer left.

Why would not drafting a player at all be better than drafting Eyenga? Only for a team that didn't want to pay him. Gilbert can afford to pay him $1mil hoping he can contribute.
Blair better than JJ? Maybe so right now, but JJ has much more upside and they are the same age. I doubt any execs would rather have Blair. I already said though that the Cavs had Shaq, Z, JJ, and Andy. You have to look at needs when the draft happened.

That's fine, unlike a lot of people on here I can take it.
I just happen to disagree. The Cavs have not instilled any confidence in me that they can make a good, or maybe the correct, pick in the draft. It's just my opinion.

I mean that Cavs really didn't hit any HRs with their drafting, but I certainly wouldn't say that they drafted poorly. Just look at the guys drafted after the supposed 'bad' picks. There are very few instances where you can say, "wow, the Cavs really messed up there!"
The main one I would question is the Eyenga pick. As others have said, they drafted him because they had a good team and preferred to draft a guy they could stash overseas for a season. To me that was boneheaded. You should always take the best guy available. You should never draft somebody in the name of saving money. DaJuan Blair should have been their guy, I don't care if they had several guys on the roster already who played the same position. What purpose did Leon Powe serve last year?

Another reason why I say Ferry was a bad GM.wildcats20;662536 wrote:The Cavs recently have a bad draft history. This year they will wind up with a great position to make a pick, but who is to say they don't blow it again?
Look at their draft picks since LeBron.
2004: Luke Jackson
2006: Shannon Brown, Boobie and Ejike Ugboaja
2008: JJ Hickson
2009: Danny Green and Christian Eyenga
Only 1 of those players has panned out and that is Boobie.
Don't steal my thunder. I've been saying all along that the Cavs should have drafted Blair and everyone has been critical of me for it.wildcats20;662549 wrote:What should they have done?

The Cavs have drafted poorly, that's a fact. And the only proof you need is to watch them play.

There are plenty of teams that passed on Dejuan Blair. Hes a 6'8 center with bad knees. Theres a reason that he fell as far as he did. The Thunder have been looking for help inside for years, they passed on Blair. The Pacers took Tyler Hanbrough over Dejuan Blair.

Bad knees is an understatement. I don't even think he has ACL's in either of his knees.KR1245;663169 wrote:There are plenty of teams that passed on Dejuan Blair. Hes a 6'8 center with bad knees. Lol that was the sentiment before he pulled off the "trade" for Pau.
And I only say "trade" because we all know it was more highway robbery than anything.

Well Pau single handedly basically got them to the playoffs. The Grizz on paper appear to be a very good team. I like all their pices (Mayo, Gay, Zach, Gasol, Conley) thats a talented group.
