Purdue actually went up after losing to OSU worse than Duke lost to SJ.

I believe the Jimmer Cougars moved up a spot, too, from No. 9 to No.8 in the AP poll, after their loss to New Mexico on Saturday. Jimmer did beat #4 San Diego State earlier in the week, though, so that probably helped to weather the storm of the New Mexico upset.

St. John's sanded Duke. However, the Johnnies beat a good Georgetown team earlier in the season and blew Notre Dame off the floor. Steve Lavin has been proven capable of getting this team to play really good basketball; they just haven't been able to do so on a consistent basis. That will come with more experience under Lavin's system and example. Years of perennial losing breads inconsistency. Lavin is beginning to change that.

My point is, Duke dropping to just five is really not all that surprising. The Blue Devils are still a formidable team, and the blow-out loss to St. John's Sunday doesn't change that. As mentioned previously, Duke lost to Georgetown last season by 12, and trailed in that game by nearly 30..

That Georgetown team made the tournament. The only way St. Johns gets a bid is if they win the conference tournament.

I know it's not surprising but IMO they should fell a tad bit lower than 5th. Duke was pounded by a 11-8 & (4-5) in the BE St.John's.

Then perhaps I should have pointed to Duke's 88 to 74 loss to NC State last year, in which the Devils trailed by as much as 17 in the second half. My bad.

(Just to ensure this example is sufficient, NC State has not been active in March -- read: NCAAs -- since J.J. Redick was still playing for Duke.)

Perhaps, but I wouldn't compare conference losses to OOC losses.

It's St. John Arena not St. John(S).

This whole thread is comical. Teams lose games they shouldn't lose and win games they had no business winning. Duke will be fine. I will be willing to wager anything with anyone on them reaching the Sweet 16.

Yeah...but when it seemed like the vast majority of the top teams lost at least once last week, it's hard to drop them too far. It's not like other teams were making a big claim to push past them.
