Yes, but that would be weird, too.

Yeah, upon thinking about it with a clear head this morning, I'm HOPING that SOME of it was Thut's familiarity with the way Schrock coaches and thinks. Thut has been in all the Smithville coaching meetings and has heard Schrock talk about how and why they do what they do. I'm hoping part of it was that he knew what to expect of Schrock in several of the situations.
That's no excuse, though. The D did NOT play well at ALL last night. If that D had showed up to Hillsdale, the Falcons would have hung 70 on us. That D would have made Waynedale a dogfight. Would have lost to Mogadore with it.
The Smithie defense needs to be perfect going forward.
As an aside, did you notice that the officiating crew seemed equally sensitive about WRs getting touched last night? There was a college coach scouting one of our guys one of the last two weeks, and he remarked that the DBs drawing PI penalties were playing defense exactly how you're supposed to play it, and that the refs were out of their minds.
I just thought it was odd to see it two weeks in a row, when we hadn't seen it at all up to this point, and it's not as though they changed how they play. One hand on the back of the player (so that if he catches, you're right there to wrap him up) and the other defending the ball. Was a rule suddenly changed such that you're not allowed to touch a receiver at all until he touches the ball or something?

Hell, Smithville 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004 got to the Elite 8 in the state or better, and from 2000 to 2006, they won or shared 7 straight WCAL championships (Dorksen was wrong in the paper, as Chippewa won it outright in 1999 I believe). Seems like some pretty great football in there.
Hell, that 2002 Dalton team was no slouch either. This league has had great football played by a lot of the schools at one time or another.
But it's good to see Norwayne getting a piece of that action lately.
oldsmithie;925923 wrote: I stand by my statement, Hillsdale and Smithville will give the Bobcats a game.
I'm nervous about saying Smithville will after last night. The offense will test their defense, as Smithville showed they can pass last night (125 yards, anyway), and everyone in the area knows they can run. But I'm not sure Norwayne's offense, which has looked even more potent overall, will be slowed down. I hope I'm wrong.

If that hole doesn't get patched, the Norwayne passing game is going to have a HUGE day on Friday. 39 pts to a very young Husky squad is totally unacceptable for a team that has/had playoff aspirations.
It will be interesting to see how the Smithies roll it out on Friday.....I mean Big Green is gonna have to cover the vaunted Dennis WR screen.
I'm HOPING, as I said before, that some of it was just that Thut knows Smithville's playbook and the way Schrock thinks, having coached under him for a bit.
However, you're right about them needing to shore up. Winning by just 17 points to that Huskie team is unacceptable. Allowing more points than you have to any other opponent and allowing them to score more against you than they have against any other opponent ... also unacceptable.

Just pay for a ticket for the bell, and tell them it's your aunt. They'll let you in.
Bloody Toothbrush;926161 wrote:GoFalcons...
tell them at the Northwestern gate that Roy Bates personally forged that bell in his spare time....and furthermore, he used it to single handedly unite the district. Not only will they believe you and let you bring it in, some moron will probably give you a grand for it.
Even better.
