leadership starts at the top with the coaches then it goes to the seniors
how about when the head coach takes his headset off in the middle of the forth the last two games is NOT showing any leadership if anything that is giving up not to mention Zuercher didn't try to score with three minutes left with smithville he rolled over and let them have to shutout
Taking your headset off is showing lack of leadership, huh? THIS is exactly what I have been saying over and over again about this forum! Beast, I would ask you for support on this but YOU said the exact same thing after the Smithville game. Do you really feel that taking your headset off late in the game when you are getting your butt whipped is a "lack of leadership" or means that our coach "quit" on the team???
Jmar25...FINALLY a voice of reason.
As I recall, Coach Z was still calling the plays AND he was still teaching/coaching the kids that were in the game. There comes a time when you are down by 5-6 TD's where the guys up in the booth aren't going to help you at all. Rorschach, I am pretty sure Zuercher watched enough film during the week that when it came to that point in the game he was going to call things for those kids that he felt would make them successful. I have heard people on here saying he "quit" on the team because we just ran the ball late in the Smithville game. Our JV QB is a good athlete but his isn't the greatest passer yet, so Z called plays that wouldn't put those kids in a position they weren't used to being in.
It is time to move on but the bad thing is our opponent this Friday
may be the best team we have played all year. If that is the case, then we may be in store for another lopsided loss and I just can't wait to hear the "fans" get on here again and rip the coaching staff. I am not quitting on these kids yet, but their RECENT history doesn't paint a very positive picture.
I know that I have been critical of these seniors and maybe I have been pointing the finger at the wrong people. However, I will never place the blame on the coaching because I know what they do each and every day. Maybe the problem is the
parents? Could that be? I wonder how many of the complainers on here are parents/family members? I for one, am not! If our kids are hearing at home, the same complaints I hear on here then our coaches can do everything in the world and it will NEVER work. Plus, when I walk along the "fence" and hear the people that I KNOW are parents doing nothing but 2nd guessing the coaches/players...I have to believe they are doing it at home. What a shame! That is a battle that our coaches will NEVER win.
Having fun...what you consider "goofy", I consider offensive. Doing an obscene gesture with your hands on the front cover of a sports program to me, is NOT goofy. See that is the problem...we have come to just accept those types of things from our kids as "goofy" (yuck, yuck..real funny). In the past, kids would have NEVER thought of doing that but that isn't the case anymore. When will it ever change??? Also, you talk about this 8th grade class. One class will NOT save this program. We need the grades above them and below them to be competitive as well. Heck, the 9th grade class had their best football player quit because his "heart wasn't into it". Seems to be a recurring theme with our boys right now. Is that the coaches fault? We had a class in the early-mid 2000's that was supposed to be the "savior" but they had no good classes around them. They won the league their senior year but I think they shared it with 2 other teams. That was the ONLY good year they had. Plus, what a team does in junior high means NOTHING when it comes to what they can do in high school. If we don't get rid of this "oh well" attitude around here then we will never get out of it!!!
